Midwest skiers

My dad always tells me that growing up in the mid west makes you a very good all-rounded skier because we have crazy condition changes in days or even hours. I'd like to hear what you guys think about this.

You can't really ski with speed because the runs are too short, you never get mogul runs, and you never get powder. Only thing I can see is skiing on ice helps you with edge control

I agree for east coast bigger mountains like you'd find in Vermont, but is there anywhere with decent vertical or steeps in the midwest? Pardon my ignorance

This, Bohemia is really the best you can get in the Midwest for technical, steep terrain. I think the skiable vert is only around 870 ish but it makes up for it.

Midwest skiing is really something special though - I live on the east coast now & even though I’m skiing Hunter, Carithina & other bigger, more impressive offerings I still look forward to going home to ski. No other region in the country has consistent night skiing, the laps are so quick that you get to know your local ski area like the back of your hand & the community is so tight knit.
As OP stated above - you do ski in some pretty fucking gnarly conditions as a result & I feel as if it has improved my overall appreciation for skiing. You appreciate what you have & have a motherfuckin blast nukin around a hill that’s skiable vert falls below 400’

My favorite part about the Midwest is the unlimited tow rope laps

possibly true? I can't say completely true bc we have no cliffs, no legitimate mountains, a super short season (at least in my case), practically no powder (3 inches tops where I am), and no good backcountry skiing.

In terms of building an all around skier I’d say the ranks are
1. East coast.
2. West coast
3. Midwest
