We all know that skiing evolved from snowboarding in a huge way, from grabs to off axis rotations and much much more. But does anyone know if snowboarding has progressed and been pushed because of skiers? If so, how? And where?
fredferlandI know a lot of skiers watch snowboarding, but I've always wondered if snowboarders actually watch skiing for inspiration. My guess is not really
All the snowboarders I know watch as much (if not more) skiing than snowboarding. It's impossible not to, there is just so much more skiing out there. Big Mtn stuff especially. You've basically got Jeremey Jones and ten thousand skiers. And it's all equally good.
As for the original question...I guess almost everything. I mean skiing has like a few thousand year head start on snowboarding.

i mainly snowboard but watch much more skiing videos than snowboarding ones
I think people take things from what they see in both sports but I can't think of anything where it's like "Snowboarding absolutely took that from skiing!"
cannonballer"Rocker" is a surfboard shaping term. And as you point out, McConkey brought it into skiing.
He took inspiration from water skis, not surfboards. He literally slid down a mountain sideways on waterskis to prove rocker and reverse side cut had a place in skiing.
Yeah ok so there is a few things we have acquired from surfing. But is not like Chris Benchelter completely took something from surfing. That design is just something Rob was just mucking around with and it never actually gets used in surfing. The boards they were riding in the video didn't even have it. If your thinking of it that way you could say skiing stole the use of fibreglass off surfing.
highly disagree. boarders have been laying down wicked carves for years now, new wave skiers totally bit that shit from them. I think Thirtytwo or whatever does a flatland comp at brighton/other resorts every year that has been ongoing for years.

Bullshit. This a george greenough edge board that he started shaping in the 1960s... Look at that and tell me that the bent chetler tips do not have this same exact shape
plenty of shit that skiers have done was before snowboarders, the whole idea of flatground tricks, some grabs and a good chunk of jump tricks aside from off axis stuff were done in the 70s. Whether or not snowboarders took inspiration from these or created them on their own is debateable though. Freeskiing was evolving basically at the same time as modern skateboarding, just in a completely isolated world (which ended up being shat on by FIS)

Yeah I know mate. Surfing has used that shape before. I've been surfing my whole life, am far better at surfing than skiing. I've also worked as a surfboard shaper. All I can say is that i've never seen a board with that shape.
Far different to skiing taking twin tip designs from snowboarding. It makes me wonder if anyone has tried putting channels on skis. Maybe they could have an advantage in powder. (or not?) But from experience channelled surfboards are faster for sure.

Hm well i know for sure there are some guys in australia working on more retro/alternative boards that have more of a similar hull...guys like corey munn. Maybe not as familiar with logs? I log 95% of the time and so many boards have a big belly/hull to them

Yeah there is a retro/hippy movement in the Byron bay area. Not with that hull though. They have twin fin boards too small for them and 20 inches wide... and no legrope. No I don't longboard. I ride 5' 11"s and 6'1" step ups.

Yeah figures haha...lot of really wild shit going on out there w shapes and displacement and whatnot...not stuff u find on stock hi pro shortboards

besides, ya know, the basic premise of the entire sport ;)
I don't know if some butter tricks were a thing in snowboarding before skiers started to do them. I think the two sports are sort of co-evolving recently. I mean both are shreding the same parks with the same features and both will notice it when the other group does something rad and will start thinking about doing something similar on their hardware of choice.

Dude sorry. Didn't read the name of the thread good enough
