Cadrona/Queenstown Season

Cardrona is in Wanaka not Queenstown, so unless you want to drive over the crown range every day, look at staying in Wanaka

Cardies and Remarks have good parks and treble cone can have some good pow with some technical stuff. Finding a place is hard just like in most ski towns.

Oh cheers, heard queenstown is the place to be for a ski town though, how does it compare to wanaka for all of that?

Just stay in the caravan park.. book early its pretty chill.. hitch spot is super close to.. just buy a shit car in NZ for 1000 $

Really interested in this too as i am backpacking nz pretty soon and hoped to be able to do the winter season there too!

So i live in queenstown all year round and as stated before if your looking to mainly ride cardrona you want to look at basing your self in wanaka as the drive from queenstown to the carpark at cardrona will take you an hour (longer depending on traffic) where as wanaka your looking at about 30 minutes as the wanaka side of the crown range tends to be quieter. Which brings me to the next part, Housing down here is an issue at the moment as Queenstown is currnetly in a massive growth spurt and sadly the housing market hasnt caught up yet which means finding a house is hard so start looking early and expect to pay a bit. The two closest mountains in Queenstown are The Remarkables ( Half decent park, good backcounty skiing when it snows ), and coronet peak (if you dont ski race, dont bother). Wanaka on the other hand is still slightly cheaper housing wise and you have cardrona (amazing park, not bad back country) and treble cone ( no park and crazy good back country). Queenstown is a pretty busy place with a crazy big night life where as wanaka is slighty more chill. Hope this helps you guys out its definitely worth the visit down here!!

for accom, i suggest looking on the fb pages. I stayed with my buddy with this mother n 4 kids, they were very nice people to live with!

All about that Wanaka life, way more of a locals feel than Queenstown. Crown range gets closed from time to time so wouldn't be able to get to Cardies without a huge detour.

Wanaka gives access to Cardrona (good park) and Treble Cone (good terrain) the nightlife is pretty fun still too

Sounds like Wanaka is the one to go for. Wanna ski Cardies for the park and have access to TC freeride terrain as well. Prefer a locals feel and won't be partying as much as I did on my Whis season anyway
