How to take off stash pile grips

Trying to cut some poles down but they are so damn hard to get off and the soft cork grip dents when I slam it into and edge. Don’t want to boil them because it will fuck up the grip, so how tf do I get these off?

Pull real hard until it comes off.

To soft, yanking on it with a vice or pliers tears it up and I don't beat enough to have the necessary hulk strength.
