Found this box of wax called "Parowax" at the grocery store for 5 bucks, with the intention to use it as a wood finish. But I noticed it lists "snow skis" as a use... Has anybody ever used this stuff before?
I was thinking it might only be good for a hot wax where you scrape it out of the base while its still hot to remove impurities... What do you think?
Not sure how good it is for the skis to be honest, but it’d probs work fairly well. I’ve used canning wax and shoe polish in a jam and both felt exactly the same
I have a collection of all kinds of random waxes back east but don't wax my gear that often. Usually I'll just tune it in a shop at a mountain I work at or know friends working at.
But you should be good to go. Idk, I used the straight clear/white blocks of paraffin, it worked, and nobody died. People will probably say you can't do that, but it worked. If you were a pro racer maybe not, if your base is dry and you're trying to get things rolling again, totally.
GrandThingsI'd be a little cautious seeing as the box also says it can be used for surf wax which is totally different
I just noticed the uses on the box. I think some surf waxes use paraffin as a base. Not sure what else they add though. Obviously the uses in skiing and surfing are different though. One is to sink into the base and make you go fast, the other is to make sticky bumps for grip.
Idk. I think OP will be safe though. Curious your it would work as is for surf wax though.

Sure it will work, but it's more than likely going to perform as a soft wax. So if you have fresh or cold snow you will not do very well.
Beyond that no matter what wax you use, if you don't scrape and brush well, you will suck wind anyway.
In general, surf wax is very soft. Too soft for snow crystals.
Just get some real wax such as Dominator Zoom series and call it a day.

It's should work okay if you mix just a bit of it with Dominator Bullet. Make sure your iron does not smoke the wax!
