I've known some pretty good riders that ski while high and kill it in the park. They definitely aren't getting epic abilities from pills though. Shit sucks though. Def doable but opiates are not really worth fucking with. Had 2 friends die just since last spring. One of them a dope snowboarder. Addiction is fucked. Not worth the risk peoples.

Don't know about skiing on it, but we have definitely repaired ski on it and we did an "amazing" job.

It's a sport where people get hurt a lot and with getting hurt comes painkillers and with painkillers can come addiction. There was a pro skier who died of a heroin overdose (won't say name since NS for some reason made it their mission to cover up how he died, even though I think it's more important to talk about it then hide from it). Whether that heroin addiction stemmed from painkillers, I don't know. But it's a very real issue that happens to a lot of people and I suspect if one were to look at opiate addiction and skiing there might be some pretty eye opening figures.

Solid point. Tanner is a prime example of getting caught up on pills after a major injuries. It is very common among NFL players as well; Brett Favre admits he had a very real problem for a few seasons. I haven't thought about that in regards to skiing though - dudes get broke off all the time, lots of orthopedic injuries and what not. I am sure there are others out there, probably even some top pros, that really really really liked how that stuff made them feel while they were recovering from injury. I hope that isn't a secret problem in action sports as a whole.

In regards to Tom Warnick, its a shame that anyone would want to withhold his name from anything. Warnick was a super dope skier and must have been a great guy considering how many people miss him.

What was the joke

I work grave shift grooming parks so I work weird night hours. Usually 12:00 midnight to 9 am. anyway been hitting a tired state after 5 am on my days off. was on NS tonight and somehow ended up in this thread.

So my friend Zachary was an awesome snowboarder. Could hit anything and throw something filmable first try. He had been recovering from prior addiction. He was doing really well. I actually swapped some days with him as needed so he could get things rolling in the program he was involved in. I didn't ask his prior demons, it was none of my business, but he got into some of it at points.

Zach had been recovering from opiates and drug charges. Nice guy, came to work on time, passionate about his job and parks.

I was riding with him one afternoon early feb. There was a jump that hadn't bee properly tested but was open to public. He hit the jump full speed off the rail above it and came up massively short. He was a good 4 feet short of the landing easy. Unfortunately it ended his job, it ended his snowboarding, and it eventually took him. I hit him up a few times trying to get him to come out and hang and play skate. Was down to be sober even. I just wanted to get him out and doing alright with some people that could understand . He was pretty thankful but I never actually got him to make the trip. Was at east a 20 min drive for him so I can understand. In retrospect I wish I had pressed it more. I had had weird feelings about the situation. I wanted to make sure he was alright.

I didn't hear anything back from him after a while. Figured he was just doing his own thing and that was cool with me. I got an email in June while working the southern hem season that Zach had overdosed and eventually passed away.

I would say it was a fucking bummer, but that doesn't even do it justice. He was doing so well, getting his shit together, still so passionate about snowboarding and the mountains. It was fucked, it was just fucked. I was fucking routine for him full on. If he needed a schedule shift I was down to swap. He was fucking killing it.

Obviously using drugs and what not is a personal choice That said, if you've known people that have gone through this shit, maybe you can understand. Nobody wakes up one day and says "I'm going to fuck my life up with drugs" it's just not the way it goes down. Unfortunately addiction pulls some good people into very dark places. People can look and judge and say "That's not me" but who does that help? Does pushing that person away to make yourself feel better help you? Some people get into bad ruts and we as a community can help to get them on the right rack. Addiction is a disease, you can't solve it for them, but being there and trying to help matters.

Don't be too quick to judge those around you. I've seen addiction in a lot of my good friends, and it's ridiculous how vast it spreads. It isn't just some issue that homeless bums are facing. It could be people with good jobs in the city etc.

RIP Zachary D. AKA Dr. Tots. You were an awesome rider, a good sport, and a fucking solid person. I'll miss you buddy. I hope you're at peace. Life it a fucked up place sometimes. Here's to hoping you've found a solid park to lap in the sky. Cheers dude!


So I ended up fucking crying while typing that out. I can't even cry at funerals most times. If you're in a shitty spot, I feel you, I get it. But I'm routing for you to come out the end, better than just alive, but really doing alright. If you're having issues with drugs or life in general, talk to people, try to do something about it. It doesn't matter if I don't know you, if other people don't know you. This sport is a small niche community. IT fucking sucks losing people. Even if you don't know them it's a bummer. If they're somebody you ski with work, with, etc even worse. I don't expect people to magically straighten things out for strangers on the internet, but if nothing else, just know there are people out there who give a fuck, will listen to you, and are routing for you to making it through the bullshit.

skiing on coke is ok .. yoru reaction time speeds up slightly.. the drug in my opinion to ski on is MDMA in light amounts.. it makes you ski like a ninja from my previous experiences.
