Lost my love for skiing

fuck i used to be so into skiing and constantly improving, like the last three years i have barely learned/ improved at all. I think a large part of this is due to me skiing by myself mostly as none of my friends were into park skiing. without any friends to push me forward until fairly recently i have grown to detest the sport i once charished so deeply, no amount of full tilt boots or free stickers can console my broken heart. What do i do?

Take a step back. Burnout is real. Try snowboarding or ski on blades for a day. Get out of the park and cruise around the blue runs. Ride switch all day. We all get to the spot you are in. It's about resetting your mind.

Try to meet new people on the hill. See if there's any NSers you can shred with. Where do you ski? I'm sure plenty of people here would be down to ski if at your home mountain. Is there room to improve your skiing? Yes, always. Take a lesson if you're at a plateau with your ability. Ask for tips from better skiers on the hill. Challenge yourself and hit stuff that makes you nervous. Try to change up your style. See how fast you can hit a mogul run. Huck some cliffs. Play music while skiing. Act like a total goon and have fun on the slopes. Get into backcountry touring. Watch some ski movies or read magazines for extra hype. Do some tuning and waxing of your skis at home (always gets me anxious to ski). Finding people to ski with is the best medicine.

That sucks. I got sick a couple weeks ago and it made me think I didn't like skiing anymore because I couldnt get excited. It came back.

You should watch a classic ski movie, maybe try snowblades, ride pow if you can. Good luck.

I’m in the same place. I used to have a group of friends that I regularly skied park with. All those kids grew up and went on to do other things or don’t ski park anymore, it really sucks because as much as I love skiing, it just isn't the same without a group of friends.

Maybe just do freeride man, Park can be stressful for that fear of hurting yourself and honestly, freeride is so much more fun sometimes, creativity can be the best thing next to the skis you’re riding

I was in the same situation my third year skiing park. Something that worked for me was just finding a trick you want to learn and spend the day trying your ass off until it hurts. Being able to measure your progress like that will keep you interested and motivated. If you have access to a rope park it's easier going alone because I feel most people are also in the same position and are just trying shit and messing around. Also if you go enough you can make friends with the locals since you're both there all the time anyway.

Honestly man I have to say I’m going through the same thing, I fell hard the other day spinning out of a rail and might have torn my rotator cuff. Honestly my first year skiing I went every weekend and learned to backflip, I felt like the sky was the limit. After taking that crash I really just thought that honestly I’m alright with where I am at, I’m never going pro, the future for me skiing is nothing but enjoyment and to me it’s just not worth destroying myself on big features, I’d rather just chill on some medium features and just have some fun. I’m just not that motivated to keep pushing my limits. Either way man some times stuff like that happens just try and get back into it and if not, just remember the good times and put it in the past.

You manipulate people to be your friend?? How about you ski with people that you actually want to ski with instead of manipulating people you have no interest in into to liking you. Try giving them eggs that usually works for me

Even though I really like the bunch, I have to agree with you. Interpretation is the last movie I'd send to someone whose love for the sport died. The bunch is great for when you're already deep in the rabbit hole and you just can't get enough, so you look for some new textures and flavors, but it can also be underwhelming.

I might agree with you normally, if you were referring to their older films (far out, finesse, finito), but Interpretation is anything but underwhelming. They really stepped up the level of difficulty of their tricks compared to the ones in their older films

Yo man, this happened to me at the start of the season as i moved away from the mates id usually shred with. Try taking the stuff you have dialed in the park to the mountain, hit some crosscuts and get sendy!

I had burnout for a bit last year, theres a thread I made about is around somewhere...

Either way what worked for me was to step back and take a break from it for a bit. Find other interests and just don't worry about it. Make new friends. After you've taken a long enough break see if your ready for more skiing, watch some movies and get stoked. Make a new playlist when u come back too it helps.

I hate that I can relate to this. All through last season I felt like there was something I’d rather be doing than skiing. It sucks that I ski alone (like you do) and it’s not that I’m an antisocial person but honestly it sucks to ski with someone you just met rather than with someone you actually know. The friend I used to ski with occasionally goes to school in Montana now so I’m flying solo in Colorado. Hopefully no one is reading this and realized that I used the term “flying solo” in 2018. Anyway if you’re ever in Colorado let me know
