But ppl came because free speech was like having no speed limit, and no cops radaring you to check youre speed. So people came to drag race their cars and be completely free. I think the concept of censoring ns and expecting people to still show up is equivalent to the concept of a having a highway that goes nowhere that had a 55 mph speed limit and expecting people to still show up.
The whole allure of the old ns
was that it was an autobahn of sorts.
I dont think it has much chance of making a comeback tho. The hand can only be bitten so many times before it never feeds again. I hope it does tho.

Why is it that so many people assume this site died because of censorship? Sure, its not QUITE as much of a baron wasteland as summer NSG in 2010, but I've really yet to see what everyone is complaining about. There are still shitposts and edgy threads, they just lack traction because there are only 10 of us who actually frequent the site.

People don't use forums as much as they used to, its a fact. We really only delete hate speech and otherwise everything is good to go unless its so stupid that we decide to delete it, so blaming moderation/censorship isn't really fair.

I certainly wasn't one of the guys who made ns great in the summer, but the growing up, getting a job, etc. is very true. I find myself on here less and less. Not because I don't want to be on here, but because I just don't have time or am focused on other things.

That is the truth. I think the core members that were kids when this place started have now become adults. The new kids don't know what it was like in terms of threads being responded to in seconds. Dynamics change and people grow up. it is sad to see because this place used to be an escape for me 12 years ago. When you think if that, 12 years in the tech/online world is a lifetime.

Forums are just not as relevant as they used to be because lines of communication have shifted so drastically.

Older guy here checking in (since the season is ramping up) for the first time in years.

This is exactly what happened. The guys that all hung around and replied to threads in literally seconds all grew up and forgot about this place, myself included. It’s kinda making me sad thinking about it tbh.

The young blood that should have filled the gaps never came, and that’s why it feels dead. Whether they didn’t come because NS dropped the ball or just because they simply don’t use forums and instead use Snapchat, instagram, etc is anyone’s guess, I have no idea.

Sad to see that NS has faded from the vibrant conversational internet niche it was in 2007-2011 to a dusty old forum.

Fuck I’m sad now

i gotta say being on this site since 2005..i think? i rarely come on here anymore, being 28, regular job and weekend warrior skiing i at times even forget about this site. cheers to the old timers still on here

i remember this site from way before i really got into park skiing, i literally searched up "TWINTIP" on google and it always brought me to this page. i had a break from skiing where i was a fat nerdy gamer that had seen all the episodes of adventuretime. i came back in late 2014 season, made a user later that year. really didn't go in the threads before summer 16

The mods are chill. We really don't delete much stuff tbh and probably let a lot more stuff stay than we should. If you ever have a problem or want to know why something specific got deleted, just let us know and we'll be happy to check it out.

As far as things being better in the glory days. I don't know man. I've been here for a long ass time lol. The quality of news, media, and content is way beyond what it ever used to be in the past. Yeah, I believe that there was a much better sense of 'community' back in the day and threads may have been more active.. But it was a completely different time back then. When I started freeskiing, there were only 2 other skiers on the whole mountain with twin-tips (and I lived outside of Tahoe) So we were rebels, man lol. It was a whole different era. We all had a shared love for skiing and it was a damn small circle, so we all became good friends.

And I think NS was exactly like that for a lot of people. Back then, there was NO other place to go for skiing. Got a question about gear? You're shit out of luck. Want to see dope new ski pics? Not going to happen, unless you want to wait a month for the next issue of Freeze Magazine to drop.

So when you found NS, it was like finding freaking Shangri La. People were on here 24/7 and there was a super tight bond because everyone was family (and because there was NO other place to go lol) But yeah, things change. These days, people got Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, or Grindr (if that's how you get down lol).. They can follow their favorite riders there, and use other social platforms to keep in touch. So what used to all take place on 1 forum, now got spread out across FB, instagram, etc.

But times change, it's cool. NS is still going strong and kicking ass which is amazing to me.

Loved that edit. I would agree though that freeskiing feels dead. At my local mountain there used to be several groups of people always skiing park, this season we don't even have a park set up, and I'm 22 and the only one on the mountain with twintips. Weird feeling. I even went to killington last week, and there are not nearly as many people skiing park as there used to. Lots of people are skiing, but park seems to not be as "cool".

I am glad to say I was a teen during the "hay day" of park skiing It was truly a blast

I mean does tammy wamstick even ski anymore???

I am also looking into buying a pair of directional skis so I guess I am also moving away from park

Agree with what's been posted. The world of freeskiing has expanded. There's more than just NS to get your fill of edits, photos, and advice. Back a few years ago, this site was it. There were a few smaller resources as well, but overall NS was on top.

I think the site did the right thing. The skiing content became way better. People outgrew NSG.

Truth be told, take a look back at some of the "epic" threads. Most of them were well known across every forum on the internet at the time.

And the rest most likely devolved into name calling and harassment.

But we had some great times all the same. I know I had a lot of fun on here and got to talk to some really cool people.

I don't know if it has faded per se, but I feel the core scene behind it has changed. I mean shit, Poorboyz isnt even making films anymore. I remember when Happy Dayz and Session 1242 came out. Those movies changed my life. Along with Level 1's High Five.

There is nothing to look forward to anymore in terms of new vids being dropped or mags being released. Everything is instantaneous now, which in my opinion, takes a lot of excitement out of the industry. Waiting for a new issue of Freeze was like waiting for Christmas every month. Getting the gear guide in Freeskier was the shit. (I got my first pair of Tecnica Hot Forms because of one of those issues) There is nothing tangible anymore. What I would give to go back to 2001-2006.

The site died because alot of interesting ppl were banned, and the remaining faggots were liberal as fuck.
