Why are there so many Asians at Jay Peak?

*Not trying to be racist, so don't ban me lol.

Serious question though. No offense to anyone who is Asian. When I was last there over the holidays, I was literally the minority. I expected the high population of French speaking Canadians, but where are the Asians from? They all had rentals. Are they descendents of EB-5 investors there to collect on free skiing? Is there an Asian population in upper Vermont or across the border in Canada that I don't know about? I only seem to encounter this at Jay, which is why I'm confused. Someone please weigh in as I'm curious.

It could be a massive group. At gore back in the day there was a week of Ukrainians taking over the mountain on rental skis every year.

Yeah I live in Boston and see a big ass groups of like 50 Asians walk down the street all the time.

Toronto and Montreal have a large population of Asians. This is nothing new. They are also in Boston and NYC. Get with the times. Lots of other nationalities are moving to the US. You'd see the same thing at Whistler as Vancouver has a large population of individuals from Asia as well. The nice thing is they spend truck loads of money at the resorts so i dont have to. lol

Actually, that might have been Canadian money. Mount Snows $50million dollar hole in the ground was Asian Eb-5 money. What a joke.

The reason you see 50 of them at a time is because a lot of their tourism is organized this way. It's super popular in Japan to go on a group tour somewhere. It happens in Austria all the time. Two huge tour buses roll up and 100 Japanese tourists pour out and they all go to the same place and do the same thing. So if they organized a skiing event, that's why you see 50 of them at the same time, all with rental gear.

About 50 Australians show up in my hometown once a week during the summer on a Contiki tour bus, and hit downtown Durango. It's hilarious to watch them all "ooh & awe" over an "American ski town". Plus they all think they're drinking heavyweights and love to challenge the local boys, but at 6,512 ft elev. none of them can handle more a single Fosters oil can before they start talking all funny and falling over. Or maybe that's just their accents, not really sure ;)

I heard aussies dont have or like fosters. Could be fake news doe.

Same thing happened to me at opening day Killington last year. I felt like the minority during the world cup it was weird. But like others said, they are prevalent in the U.S., they have money, and they like their resort skiing

I went to Tignes in Summer a couple of years ago to hit the summer park, and I'm not even joking, the entire resort was crammed with Jewish people wearing all the traditional attire... it was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen.
None of them were skiing or biking, just hanging about. So strange

Have you ever heard of the “owner” of jay? I don’t keep updated on this information but last I heard the owner was an Asian and got a bunch of visas from upgrading jay. Could be the owner handing out free visas to his friends

Same happens here in Spain. As far as I know they travel once in a liftime here and are shown ALL Europe in 2 weeks or so. I always see them in the mornings at the train station I go to get to my university.

I'm from jay Vermont and ski jay locally. every single year, around Christmas time, basically the entire city of Hong Kong comes to jay and all the employees literally call it "Asian invasion week." There's also Ontario week in late feb/ early march and British week in April. It's just massive tourist groups. Gets support obnoxious for us locals who wanna take park laps which becomes really hard when the already slow metro lift stops every 30 seconds because of some tourist shmuck who thinks they don't need help on the lift because they're clearly a baller

THIS. This is what kind of answer I was looking for. Explains it enough. Aside from the massive groups congregating stopped in the center of trails, it was just funny to see these dudes in giant groups heading down Can Am or Exhibition in rentals. Such a good show.... Although I didn't enjoy getting stuck on the Flyer for some scrub who couldn't get off the easiest lift on the mountain.

Can confirm that this still happens every year. They were fucking everywhere last week.
