I Found this on a certain snowboarding site, maybe you have to. What are your thoughts on it?
I for one thought it was BS at first but in a way it is kinda true, OP stated "So while skiers and wakeboarders won’t admit they have secret hard-ons for snowboarders, their copycat antics lead me to believe differently.". A lot has changed since May of this year, and we can all admit Snowboarding is not what it used to be. With the New Wave we are seeing somewhat that more skiers are looking back to our roots(ballet skiing) as a riding style guide VS looking to the snowboarders(Although snowboarders and skateboarders had the same apparel shit years before you guys, then the mainstream after them, now skiers).
Personally I have respect for snowboarders that can rip, many of my friends are snowboarders and they don't hate me because I ski and occasionally hop on a board. I know all of you have snowboarding friends and some of you are snowboarders yourself. I always thought that this little beef was just between suburban kids, jerries, and drunk dads.
On the mountain as a whole I can admit that there are times that in the back of my head that I have the "There's a lot of things these guys just don't understand that I do understand; and there's a lot that they can't do.. but I can do; I am superior" moments. I don't mind waiting for them when we get off the lift for about 5 -10 seconds although when i'm with other skiers it's a good feeling just riding exactly where we want to be. Also I always make sure i'm in front of them even if they are a better snowboarder than I am skier because riding Behind them can be a little awkward, as their lines can snake a little into mine.
The park scene seems a little different, I prefer watching snowboarders in the park, like many skiers do(copycats). I would almost consider the park to be exclusive to them because, well in the beginning of parks nobody really thought of Skiers. Nowadays in various parks it seems like snowboarders still outnumber and sometimes overwhelm skiers. When i'm in the park I always yield to the snowboarders because I know that my skiing park ability is not and probably won't be nearly as great as theirs is, plus when you piss One of them off in the park they All start to hate you since you just happen to be one of the odd ones out, so I try to be on my best behavior and best ability around the snowboarders.
Urban is debatable, you can do some pretty ill shit on whatever in an urban environment(Bikes, skis, boards, OFFICE CHAIRS). I think everyone wins the urban scene.
As for the other action sports, I find it pretty accurate that Skateboarding is by and large above Snowboarding, although Surfing should be at the top of the boards list not next to Skateboarding. Gotta pay respect to the originals who have been at it for like ever. Bikes, agreeable.. a parallel universe indeed, In the summer I do a little bit of mountain biking, and being at Mt Hood I can admit the bikers are like same same but different from all other action sports. Their shit is extreme, in it's own unique way. As for rollerblading and wake skating, I must say.. they just don't seem like activities one would wake up and be excited to take part in.
Again, this isn't even something you would normally think about or care about but after finding it and hearing what the snowboarders had to say about us and everyone else I found it kinda interesting.
