Can i use snowboard wax on cross country skis?

well as you read in the title. im wondering if i can use snowboard wax on skis, the brand its excellerater and it says on the top "performance spark plug" its white wax.

Yes. Most Alpine and Snowboard wax is a Uni CH non floro wax. It will work but there is better out there. Its better than nothing but yes scrape and brush the shit out of it.

Snowboard wax is meant to GLIDE while XC ski wax is meant to GRIP. So... NO.

Depends on what form of cross country. If they are skate skis, you can, but it's not the best. For classic, it will work as glide wax but don't put it underfoot. Also be careful if you have good skis you are better off using high quality swix wax Ch or Fluorocarbon. XC ski bases are more delicate than a snowboard. Hope this helps.

Most CX wax is glide. Think Skate skis, AR classic and Skin classic. Only grip wax is for a wax-able classic and that is only in the kick zone. Klister wax is use for grip.

In this thread: people who know nothing about cross country skiing.

If your xc skis have a sintered base they will accept any hot wax just like a snowboard or dh skis.

I do a lot of classic xc skiing and for best performance you put a glide wax on the whole ski (this can be a hot wax for snowboards if you have it kicking around) then you put kick wax under foot.

So yes, you can use it on xc skis.

But one tends to put glide wax on their xc skis very rarely so might as well use some decent wax rather than whatever cheap stuff you'd put on your board every few weeks.

well i decide to say screw it and it worked just fine. it actually worked better than i thought. plus there 15 year old skis i got for free, also there more types of skiing than just downhill.


edit: heres some more pictures of the skis after the waxing process. also some (hopefully) more detailed picture of the wax.
