2018 New Year's Skiing Resolutions

So, we are creeping up on New Year's and it's getting to be that time to make some resolutions. Figured it's as good a time as any to write down some goals for the 2018 season so we can have them on paper. Something to look forward to! Can be getting a new trick, skiing a new line, having fun... whatever you want that will make your season as good as it can possibly be!

here are mine:
- ski Big Couloir at Big Sky
- get 15 days in this season
- spin off a natural feature
- work on some basic backcountry skills (touring, beacon practice, probe & shoveling practice)
- do a mellow BC tour
- have fun
- stay healthy

let's hear it! what are your 2018 New Year's Ski Resolutions?

900s and 1080s but they scare me...

I've set some lofty goals for myself this season, but the last one is the most important!

-classy backie off a natural stepdown
-sw nosebutter 5 in the BC
-put together a park edit on my tech bindings
-ski tour all 5 couloirs on Molas peak (San juans, Durango CO) in a day
-bag the Gnar Couloir (Velocity basin, Silverton CO)
-take more photos/stack more clips
-start producing weekly video content @searching_for_freshies #searchingforfreshies
-work on my avalance education/ BC safety
-have fun and stay healthy!!!!!

-Drink more beers in the woods
-Dial in more switch tricks
-Get comfortable with smaller backflips / small features
-Do a 720

-Get more days in than last season

i have tried a 900 once in my life and it resulted in a concussion, so that was the end of that. when I was in my teens, I had 7s on lock with some decent grabs, nothing to special, but I have spent less and less time in the park in my 20s. good luck to you!

BenWhitI'm assuming you've done your AIARE 1? If so, what's next?


Currently waiting for snow to start falling in the SW so I can start planning a hut trip for my Avy 2, towards the end of this winter. I hear the hut trip is the best way to go! Really excited to focus more on snow science, while building off of the foundational concepts I've learned in the past. I'm also all signed up for a weekend course in Glacier travel and Crevasse rescue. All of this is in addition to regular beacon drills, digging pits, & keeping up with the forecast.

Other hurdles I'd like to (eventually) cross are obtaining Wilderness First Responder, AIARE 3, leading ice climbs, working more on my rope skills, and anything that will make me more skilled/self-sufficient in the mountains. My end game is to get into some real deal ski-mountaineering, so if anyone has any suggested paths to take that will get me there safely I'm all ears!

Glad someone caught this. I don't think it can ever truly be mastered, but I did succeed in learning no new tricks

Also just dropped a bunch of money on a new split setup and some other gear, so if we get snow, hoping to use that a bunch. Even just hiking stuff. Might try and do a hut to hut trip mid season.

Biggest goal is not to get hurt and have a fun motherfucking season. Fatty turns, pipe boosts, some grinderbar action, some beers, and some sunny motherfuckin hot laps.

Make an urban movie or two

dont hurt myself

sack up and learn some jump tricks
-cork 9
-rodeo 9 (fuck)
-unnatural corks
-switch flips
-do atleast 1 backflip this season

try to make it the first season I dont break or tear something

-I would love to get a large baller cork 7 blunt of a BC jump
- rodeo 7 blunt or mute
- sw cork 5 japan
-nose butter cork 7
- ski some more continuous lines with cliffs / hits and make them flow
- keep my snowmobile running the entire season aka not have to get dragged out

"Nose butter" might not be the appropriate nomenclature, but the trick remains the same. Ride sw into the feature, as soon as your tails are beyond the lip, set the rotation, smear some fukn butter, spin & STOMP

Fun game.

-start nailing 3s off cliffs
- do more backies off cliffs
-sweep the chimney
-nose to fingers (usually too lazy to battle for tracks)
-all lines on toad wall under silverado at squaw in a day (I've done 2/3 but need that third)


those are the biggies, but ive got tons of lines that i need redemption/want to hit at squaw. Hopefully tahoe starts getting some damn snow my lord.

Ski on snow for the first time. Been skiing on a toothbrush for 10 years... And I've never touched snow until next February when I'm off to Austria.
