I want to major in environmental engineering so a decent engineering program is necessary. I'm still trying to rip in college at least on the weekends. I got a 1410 on SAT and did all the AP bologna and extracurricular shit in high school, 3 sport athlete. Basically I have good enough credentials to have a chance at getting into any school. Not trying to pay a stupid amount to go to school either like 30k at most. I was trying to go to Dartmouth but got rejected, which is why I am here. Essentially I want to hit the slopes with the boys and smoke bogs while getting a good engineering degree. Location doesn't matter, open to suggestions cause I know I'm missing some gems. My list right now is...
UVM (accepted w/ scholarship at 35k per year)
UNH honors program (Accepted w/ scholarship at 30k per year)
Colorado School of Mines
Michigan Tech
Thoughts? Considering Boston schools but not sure how to feel about them.

From an engineering standpoint Mines blows CU out of the water. In fact CU cant event be considered an "Engineering school." Its nationally unranked in every concentration, was only recently accredited, and from a skiers prospective its barely the Front Range.

I'm a CE with a bachelors from Penn State, a Masters from Lehigh, and working on acceptance for my PhD here in Colorado. I skied more than most while in school (about 45 days a season) then started working full time and skied only on weekends. Still managed to get about 50 days in a season. Up until almost 4 years ago when I left my first firm, cashed in my 401k, moved to Colorado, and skied 3 straight seasons of 100+ days in the front range and in the San Juans. Just recently started working as a structural designer again. No matter where you go to school, you'll get some skiing in. Focus on where you can go that will be affordable, fun, and have your back once you graduate.

UVM kind of seems like a no-brainer with the scholarship. as someone that has substantial but not overwhelming student loan debt, you do not want the burden of a loan payment after school. I would kill to not have to pay the amount I am currently paying a month, it would make my life substantively easier. Go to UVM, do well, ski locally at all of the great mountains in the area, and graduate with a solid GPA. Once you get your first job under your belt, your school & your GPA no longer matter.

Check out Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. I went there and lived there for years afterwards. Its fucking awesome plus they have a good engineering program. The local resort is 30 mins away. Its nothing special but its fun and the backcountry skiing is amazing in the San Juans. Its also very cheap compared to CU or other schools near Denver.

Michigan Tech is actually pretty rad for the shred. I grew up in Utah skiing at Snowbird, and did my first degree at the U. I Then decided to get an engineering degree at Tech.

There is the local hill in town that the university owns so you get to ski free as a student. It is only open 3:00 - 9:00 during the week so you dont get to tempted to skip studying. The park is decent and for the lack of vertical the hill is really playful. Also lots of urban in town if you want it.

Then you have Bohemia 45 minutes away with a $100 season pass. Tree skiing and pow when the snow is good. There is also a lot of opportunity for "BC" shenanigans between Houghton and Bohemia if you look.

From what I understand Mines is expensive, but has an excellent engineering program (don't know much about Enviornmental Engineering there).
Golden is easily within driving distance of keystone/a basin etc. Traffic on i70 gets crazy on weekends though.

Not to be that guy, but you should go to COLLEGE for an EDUCATION not for skiing. Go to the best school you can that makes financial sense because a better education will help you down the road. You can always get in a bunch of days in during fall, winter and spring breaks and then make more money after school for some really dope trips / have the money to buy the gear you want.

Anyways Cornell engineering is super dope if you can get in

Michigan Tech is where im going when i graduate. Small town, good engineering program and a whole buttfuck of snow (by midwest standards) and all of the snow they get there is really light powder. boho will be rocking, and theres a ski hill right across the river from campus.

I was secretly judging you for the boges comment at first haha. I’m a senior now as well and am considering environmental engineering but not dead set on it and am looking mainly at Colorado State, University of Denver, and University of Utah. I have a 1350 SAT with a 3.4 and I can go to Denver for $30k a year on the scholarship they gave me, so you’d likely go for even less. I personally want a school with over 10,000 kids and also applied to Boulder, Montana State, and UVM, and those are all solid options as well.

Idk if this a troll comment or not but CU has solid engineering school. One of the best aerospace programs: https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/engineering-doctorate-aerospace-aeronautical-astronautical. One of the best environmental programs: https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/engineering-doctorate-environmental-health. And I think chemical is around the top 10 as well. Not saying these ratings are totally reliable, but it's silly to say "CU is unranked in every concentration and was only recently accredited".

For OP, I just graduated from CU with a degree in environmental engineering so feel free to ask me any questions. I know it's expensive though...
