What flex to get on my boots?

Hey ns
I am in the market for new boots and am a bit confused on what flex I should get
I obviously know it is very important to go to a boot fitter, but just to know what type of flex I should be looking at. I am 5”8 110 pounds. Also am a size 26.5 and a
last of 101 mm, any suggestions on boots I should ask about to the fitter ?

Flex comes down to personal preference. Ask your fitter if you are unsure.

Oh I thought it came down more to weight and height, thanks anyhow.

Yeah more personal preference than anything. I'd recommend you something around 100 though..

Your Ability, intended use(park/moguls vs flat race course), preference and height/weight will be what determines flex of a boot. Tell your boot fitter all those factors and they will lead you in the right direction. As a rough flex guide-60-80 beginner, 80-100 intermediate, 100-120 Advanced and 130 plus Expert or Race Boots. If the person is larger than average, they might go stiffer than normal and if they are lighter, they may go softer than normal.

Measuring your foot and getting the proper fitting boot is very important as the whole point of stiffer, more advanced boots is quicker response but that won't happen in an ill fitting boot. Good luck on the search!

Your bootfitter will also likely assess your ankle mobility as well. That is a big factor in boot flex as well.

Do you get a stiffer or softer boot with a more flexible ankle?

How the right flex of your boot is determined:

1. Weight
2. Strength
3. Ankle mobility
4. Personal preference

Heavier and/or stronger skiers will prefer using a stiffer boot, lighter and/or weaker skiers will prefer using a softer boot. If you have limited ankle mobility, a stiffer boot will be more comfortable. If you know you hate soft boots, buy a stiffer one and vice versa.

Basically, the right flex is the one that allows you to flex forward so your knee gets to the same plane as your toes and does not turn the lower shell into bellowing mess. Too stiff and you won't be able to get your knee to the same plane as your toes and it will constantly put you in the back seat.

In my opinion, people should be in the stiffest boot that they can still properly flex. The boot will be efficient, allow you to ski properly, and be comfortable on your shin/legs. Going too stiff or too soft will be a problem. What is the right flex for you? It totally depends on the above 4 points.
