Dew Tour Format (For next year etc)

After the Olympics will the Dew Tour stay similar to what it was this year or try to do something like last years event?

I can't remember all the plans. I think the slope was cut into a 3 jump line and a separate rail jam event. And the pipe was supposed to be a funky peace pipe/B and E sort of thing before mother nature killed it.

Will there be another go at it in the future with it not being an olympic qualifier or is it going to stay stock slope and superpipe event? I can't remember if the pipe was originally planned or just an audible with the lack of snowmaking temps.

Slope course looked like a lot of fun this year though.

Had this same question. Slope last year was basically a big air comp (1 jump) and a rail jam (4 features in a row) both separate from each other.
Not sure if they only had 1 jump because of the lack of snow or that was how it intended it to be. Regardless, I think the 1 jump format was pretty cool. Interested to see what will go down next year and also interested in knowing if they will invite as many people or not since it won't be an Olympic year

If they go back to what they were doing last year I would like them to use 2 jumps instead of 1. Only having one jump makes it more into a big air contest and I think having 2 jumps would bring more style to it

Slopestyle as a sport needs to change. Jumps get way more rewarded than rails seem to. You can get so creative on rails, everybody also seems to hit the same exact rail line. Like for dew tour on the red section, I didn't see one person who scored well hit any rails but the ones on the furthest left. They build these elaborate rail sections, but they barely get used.

Viewers want to see the guy in the sky doing the most spins and flips. It's about the best show not the skiing.

I saw the course, I watched the comp, I just mean in the future. This year is right before the olympics so I'm wondering if it was changed back to a normal format because of that, or just in general.

For both of you guys, last year was only done that way due to weather.

They score more than they used to I think. There was a point where you could 50-50 the whole course almost and do a few cool tricks and win. People are throwing down some tech rail tricks at least in snowboarding, but sometimes it isn't worth it. If they just boardslide a feature are they going to get scored barely lower or the same as if they did some technical trick.

I feel like spin on spin offs score alright because they're spinning, but I've def watched some runs and been like "Are they even fucking scoring the rails"

I just saw the modified deal. I get what you're saying about that. Didn't know what they were going to do for that.

I know. That's why I was asking if that was the reason for the standard slope format versus the separate rails and jumps last year. And if they're going to give that another shot next year or if it will be a standard slope format for the future.

I thought they changed the comp format from the get go? Advertised it and everything. They were even able to build it out due to an above average early season, the weather came into play in the sense that it dumped like 12-24'' that weekend so the course was running too slow to hit all the features, so they chopped it down substantially to the point the "new format" they were trying didn't really play out.

The snow the weekend of cancelled the "jump" section of the team contest. Due to lack of snow/cold weather before the contest last year they cut pipe and only had 1 jump.

You're so damn confusing man haha. This year was a olympic qualifier, which is why it was traditional. Next year, we have no idea of what is happening.

The idea is to return to a format more similar to last year currently, but the event just ended under 24 hours ago so realistically those discussions haven't taken place yet.

What did you think, did you like this year's format for Jumps/Rails better or the "idea" of what it was supposed to be last year? (Separated 3-jump line and rail garden)

I’ve been going to the dew tour for five ish years and I’ve seen it change into what it is today. Of course the streetstyle is a step in the right direction and the team challenge is pretty cool but at the core, competition skiing is all about slopestyle and pipe. This year’s course wasn’t all that special. You can find the same combination of down rails and battleships at most parks now. I’m so excited for the Olympic slope course. I’ve showed it to everyone who has mentioned the olympics around me. The number of rails and jumps doesn’t really matter, but the creativity on it does and the on-snow creativity comes from the features the athletes are given. The US Open of Snowboarding had a pretty creative course last year and that was definitely a step in the right direction. The modified halfpipe from the team challenge was pretty cool but I can’t imagine that catching on EXCEPT for the jump into the pipe. Special pipe things like Peace Park and DoublePipe (at Aspen a few years back) are really only for video parts and specific competitions and probably should stay like that. I wouldn’t be too opposed to some changes in the pipe though, like the announcers said, it’ll be a good representation of who can adapt and who is actually the best skier at that time. Now here are some other thoughts: Real Ski from the X Games was a great addition to incorporate more aspects of skiing. A streetstyle type of thing (like Redbull Play Streets) would be awesome in other competitions.

Conclusion in case you didn’t read it all:
-Dew tour is a good competition but the course needs to be more creative
-The Olympics course is dope
-Competitions should branch out from just pipe and slope

Or have anyone else built the course. SPT is a joke. They build the same stuff, year after year, charge an insane amount for marginal work. Then of course make promotional videos showing how awesome they are. "Look how much work and snow went into this! Best jump ever"...shit is the same jump from 2012. Garbage

Love the direction Dew tour is going in.

I'd like to see a one hit wonder incorporated into Dew. Best new trick wins big money.

I didn't like Slopestyle last year because I think you should hit rails and jumps in one run. That's what makes it challenging and fun to watch. Just make it more creative like the Olympic course or the B & E Invitational.

Love the Team Challenge format, just add in one more hit on the rails. 4 rails, 2 jumps.

I didn't like last years format because it makes it too much like the team challenge competition. Slopestyle should be rails and jumps in one go. That's the challenge. To see who can balance both in one run while being stylish and tech. Just make it more creative like having side take off on the jumps....

How about having a one hit wonder event on the same day as the team challenge. One run, Best new trick wins big money.

I just want somebody to do a wizard trick in a live comp on tv. I think they should have an event that is just like rails to riches. You don't have to worry about falling or being consistent for a whole run. You just have a rail jam with one pad. I get they do that with the street section but it just isn't the same because the athletes can't go crazy since the features aren't that good.

I'm really not just fucking with you/understanding why that was confusing. Thread title mentions that it's about next year and beyond. My first post mentioned this year being and Olympic qualifier.

I was asking about future events if it would stay the same as this year, as in everyone had given up on last years plan. Or if next year being after the olympics, they would give the format from last year another shot.

I would really like to see the idea of last year get a proper shot. It didn't really work for me with the one jump because it felt like a big air comp. Nobody does 2 or 3 jump comps anymore. I was excited to see it.

I get that it's a bold move shaking things up to that extent, but IMO if it was worth giving it a shot last year, it's worth giving it another shot. Hopefully the weather is better and the comp and run as planned.

Either way I'll still tune in. Watched the "live" stream after the fact late night after work the last few nights. I dug the 4 jumps split with a rail feature in the middle.

Keep us updated when you make some official plans.

Finals only, 12 men in slope, 8 women in slope, 10 men in pipe and 8 women in pipe and three brands for the team contest.

FYI before anyone loses their minds, we didn't choose this format and I personally don't agree with this format.

As far as I know everything will be normal, there will be a 'modified' pipe for the team event
