The point is that the US president joining team Russia has that negative effect on Europe and NATO.
Are you you sure everyone would jump to each other’s rescue? Crimea was annexed by Russia and no one really did anything, Trump wants Russia added back to the G7, which was the only real punishment for their takeover to begin with.

That there was literally no one jumping in, was because Russia didn't officially do that. It started with Russian separatists and resulted in a voting. Even though it actually was Russia, the way they annexed Crimea was not what you described. They didn't roll up with tanks at first. Also you got to keep in mind that heeps of Crimea citizens were/are Russian and still feel like Russians, so the most of the citizens didn't mind too much getting annexed by Russia.
