BrueGreek life gets a bad reputation from such a small amount of chapters. If someone is an asshole then thats who they are. That said, Greek life does give people confidence because they are a part of something bigger than themselves. Yeah it sounds cheesy, but anyone in greek life will agree.
Being Greek is about have people close you with a unique bond of going through pledging, being social with a variety of people, and being a part of a larger organization. It is similar to a 'club', but a club doesn't select its members and grow for the betterment of everyone. In a club, lets say ski club, you will get a lot of skier personalities. In greek life you get a wide range of people from different backgrounds and passions and thats were a unique chemistry come. You have a connection with a large group of people who are closer than friends, and a genuine bond to a few without that chapter. Its a community all its own.
Sorry for the deep post, but I hate to see people view greek life as solely partying and destruction decisions when that just isn't it. Individuals make bad decisions, not the organization as a whole.

You have a dick head on here talking about drugging ladies and you're silent. Speak up. Call him out. Let people know that this isn't "all of you" even if my experience is that it's a lot more than you're making out. If the organization as a whole (a group of individuals) refuse to acknowledge or put a stop to an individuals bad behavior you are no better than the bad behavior its self.

broccoliraabeill get a lot of hate for this (probably ppl that weren't greek), but kids in greek like get 10 times more pussy than kids that aren't in it. the chicks in greek life are probably the filthiest pigs you will ever meet and get passed around so much.

I'm sure it varies by school, but I cant imagine at any university the greek girls are the cream of the crop. UNR is exceptionally bad. I did find that most greekers i encountered were somewhat nice, even though a lot of them were straight up tools/retards.
Rum_HamI've been involved in greek life at CU. You are kinda forced to join as a freshman guy because of how strict Boulder bars are with fakes. You basically won't be able to party if you aren't in a frat. Now that I'm 21 I'm far less involved. Made some good friends that I ski with a bunch now. It was fun but if you can go to bars with fakes at your school its not really worth it.
Also dropping bars in chicks drinks is incredibly fucked up. If you need to drug girls to get laid you 110% deserve to go to prison. That shit did not and does not fly in the chapter I was in.

I remember my first day at UNR I went to some Greek seminar thingy for freshman because my buddy was looking to join....leader of the thing stands up and says literally, "Greek kids are better in every way, we get better grades, we have better lives, we have better jobs, we are better people, and if you aren't in Greek life you aren't as good"....
I burst out laughing and everyone stared at me hahahahaha one of the most rediculous things I've heard. Most of it is fairly opposite from what I've seen hahah
Maybe UNR just has shitty greek....but it definitely turns me....and a ton of people off from it. Multiple drug rape scandals, multiple kids have died, hazing, yada yada. I've got friends back home that are greek....maybe it's better there

I definitely can see why greek life gets a lot of hate, it's pretty toxic at most schools. I can also see the appeal of greek life as well, its really fun as a freshman/sophomore.
It's obvious neither side is going to change their mind and thats fine. I just don't see a reason to hate on people because of their choice to join or not join greek life.

ShinjiYeah I remember frats costing around $800 per semester at my school while I think it cost me $15 for the year to join the ski club. Pretty big difference.
