onenerdykidIf you truly need a +13 DIN value, then just get a normal 2 piece binding and Daymakers.
AGOFOr the CAST touring system
onenerdykidA frame binding:
-messes up the flex of the ski
-has tons of stand height
-tours was less efficiently (pivot point is much further ahead- the closer it is to the ball of the foot the better)
-lots of lifted weight while touring
-way heavier in general
The only reason to ever consider a frame binding (aside from $$$) is that you can tour with a boot that does not have tech inserts. Other than that, they are fully antiquated. If you truly need a +13 DIN value, then just get a normal 2 piece binding and Daymakers.
KravtZI've been pretty happy with my salomon guradian setup on my QST 118's. Don't think the stand height really has a big impact on my skiing. Yes they are noticeably heavier but being I only do light tours and sidecountry stuff so they work pretty wellf or me

onenerdykidTrackers/Guardians have one of the lowest stand heights in the frame binding world (10mm lower than Dukes), so those will feel fine in terms of that.
Profahoben_212This is one of the reasons frames will stick around for a while longer.
Price
People without touring boots
People who are doing very short sidecountry and don't want to buy a whole new set up.
I wouldn't be surprised if in a decade we looked back on frame bindings like we do daywreckers now.
CaseyYeah it's that and that pin tech isn't really something you want for normal inbounds skiing. Maybe in 5 years we will all be on pins, but it's not there yet.

hippystinxI have put probably 40 days on a set of dynafit radical 2.0's in bounds/side country and they are just as bomb proof as the guardian binding I had before and 2 pounds lighter. i am getting the mtn lab bindings this winter for a real touring set up and I will be interested to see how those perform.
GREEN_BASTARDAfter doing a 3 day tour with dukes mounted on bubbas (my only tech boots were held in customs and had to borrow from a friend) I can say that that even though if you tour to ski, get something you will want to ski on, the dukes were not worth it. I have all the faith in my kingpins, and would suggest that this thread should be "Kingpin vs SHIFT"
CaseyAre Kingpins even being sold anymore? Are they going to be the G3 Kingpin now? Lol.
