K-Dot.Alta still not allowing snowboarders is just dumb at this point and I say that as someone who has owned a season pass there for plenty of seasons and fully understand and love the community there.
At the end of the movie Johnny Tsunami, one of the main takeaways is that Johnny brings together the snowboarders and skiers and squashes the beef between them, uniting the two sides of the mountain so that everyone can just chill together after he beats the prep school skier kid in a race down the mountain. It was filmed at Brighton in 1999 and is a pretty apt analogy of Brighton and Alta. Brighton allows anyone while essentially neighboring Alta who forbids snowboarding. Freeskiing is an outgrowth of snowboarding, love it or hate it, it’s true. You wouldn’t be hitting rails or doing urban or even viewing the mountain the same if snowboarding hadn’t gotten the ball rolling. Yeah dudes like Glen Plake set the scene for charging lines but as far as park and street skiing go and the general attitude, style, clothing and approach, freestyle skiing owes it to snowboarding. Nothing about freeskiing history is tarnished by admitting this fact, snowboarders are my friends, always have been, always will be.
Alta refusing snowboarders just feels stuck in this old ski racing mindset. It doesn’t make sense. I get that they can legally do whatever they want but it doesn’t make it right or logical. It just feels like a vestige of an old, white, posh, upper class attitude that no one in skiing really even has at this point. Alta is for skiers, and it should also be for snowboarders.
For me, the last 5+ years of the Cottonwoods just being hammered with crowds, traffic, congestion, etc., and all the in-fighting between locals and ikon passholders/tourists, and how territorial people have gotten like its some old school "Locals Only" surfer beef is what started turning me a bit off from skiing LCC regularly. It's definitely kinda gotten like Johnny Tsunami in a real silly way. Amazing terrain and some amazing people there for sure but all my buddies who regularly skied Alta treated it like it was a super secret country club and Im like "Bro its just up the street from Snowbird, relax"
Ski movies should be divided into segments for each rider. It’s cool how the current skate style movie flows but idk who tf is skiing unless it’s a movie like daycare where I know everyone. Like I didn’t even know Seamans Flanagan was in zootspace until someone on here gave him a shoutout

yeah I generally agree but there's pros and cons for both. For segments it's way easier to tell skiers apart and it's nice to see all of one person's clips in one place. For mixed segments you have more freedom to edit and choose songs. Also, if there's a skier that's less enjoyable to watch than others, I find it a lot more palatable if their clips are interspersed throughout. I think it depends on how many skiers you have in the video and how many clips each of them have.
BradFiAusNzCoCaHe’s really not that bad. Sometimes his excited screaming is annoying but I can appreciate what he’s doing and how he grows the sports
I appreciate that he breaks down tricks for people who aren't in the know but he also makes content that caters to people who don't really ski and is probably responsible for a lot of people buying dope snow. I don't fully dislike the guy, I just really don't like the way he represents skiing. I'm kinda torn cuz I don't want to denigrate someone for being successful for making content that gets some people stoked about skiing but at the same time it really bums me out that a youtuber got a pro model ski while there are so many hard working and skilled skiers who don't get anywhere near the same recognition. But I guess that's part of a broader problem within skiing
It’s not even a broader problem in skiing. It’s a broader problem in the “creator” economy. But idk man. It’s a different world. If we can’t differentiate and get eyeballs - more power to steepsteep. We freeskiers can be very gatekeepish so I don’t blame them for gravitating to him

About 40% of the park riders up at Hood (winter /spring time) can't carve, what a shame😢

It’s always wild how some park skiers have no technique or style when making turns. Like you’re on the mountain all the time, why not try and perfect that aspect of your skiing too? Plus when I take big slams in the park I definitely recover by taking a groomer lap and laying rails. It’s all related

Dudes try to say that having dull edges makes you a better skier but IMO it def doesn’t help if you can’t carve in the first place

One thing I've always appreciated was just throwing the name of whoever's skiing/riding/skating etc. on screen (even in the corner of the screen or something non obtrusive) when they first appear on the segment. Allows the viewer to put a name to a face/to some style they like and can get some hype to the individuals on screen working hard for our entertainment while not taking away from the mixed segment vibe
I’ve actually gotten in an argument about that. Someone was trying to tell me dulled edges help with carving and abilities and edging. I just skied on dulled edges last two weekends on early season snow.

skiing sharp edges is so much fun. all my skis I have to worry about slipping out if I really lean into a turn. Makes skiing anywhere on the east coast besides park not very enjoyable since everything is so firm all the time.

Ong. People are sleeping on skiing sharp edges. Turning is actually so fun on the off days, especially if your resort doesn't get a whole lot of snow or has a mid park

yeah this way is definitely practical. My perspective is that I've always enjoyed lots of videos where the skiers names aren't on screen, and so I had to spend a little bit of effort to find who the skiers were if I didn't already recognize them. That's just my perspective on it, and I get that a lot of people would find it annoying and would prefer to know the names more easily.

After rewatching the runge vid a few times it def has some wack clips with big kickers onto rails and the style is pretty much bad the whole way through but I still love the chaotic energy
cause the only talk about how nice their on3ps r and yea i’d love to ski a pair if they weren’t 800$ but i can buy 3-4 pairs of poachers or sights for 800$. idrk if people should be telling other people their skis aren’t durable when they barely abuse their skis

New child labor was kinda boring. Like the skiing is sick, but I feel like there's nothing unique or interesting about the filming or editing. Wasn't really left with any memorable impressions

I thought it was a really well put together ski movie. It had better and more balanced b-roll than a lot of other films this year. The skiing was great and i really liked most of the music.
It wasn't revolutionary, but i think it was way better than some of the supposed "heavy hitters" like Brushino

partially disagree but hear me out this one.
It is always more impressive when the stairs are bare, plus it's good to be able to count the stairs. That being said, it really depends on the spot you're hitting. Buried stairs for a downrail or mellow dfd is basically a park clip to me. When I see a rail I would never consider hitting and there's some snow on the stairs, it doesn't really bother me. People were saying the opening clip in dustbox is basically a park clip cuz there was snow on the stairs but that rail is not something you'd ever find in a park. Also, if there's a two person crew hitting a spot and it's been dumping snow I don't necessarily expect them to dig out the stairs completely. Also depends on if the stairs are wood or concrete or whatever. Some stairs slide way better and some are easier to catch on. Basically what I'm saying is that it doesn't necessarily ruin my enjoyment for a clip. Like that one rail Raf hit wasn't dug out but the rail itself was crazy and he said that he didn't even expect to get it so I'm not gonna hate on it. When I hear this take I respect it more if I hear it from someone who's skied a decent amount of street versus someone who doesn't really have firsthand knowledge. Not saying this is you but it annoys me when I see people talking shit on instagram who don't have street clips posted.
