CryptnoSkiing is becoming too religious and everyone is Romanticising the sport. Henriks last video was like this dudes lives work when it was just him skiing as usual and having someone film for a couple of years. You can't criticize anyone anymore and everything is off limits. Like tall t Dan saying you don't earn your stripes, you have them, that's wack af. Everything is all about fashion and culture too, like on3p, that shit wack, and don't even get me started on this swerve shit, the current film skier's are literally kids who don't want to go big and they try to replace it with "creativity" all the shit the same, swerve left, swerve right, jib a pebble, and ski some decent urban spot. The fact that most people hate on competition skier's is just a byproduct of watching there favorite skier's (with a few exceptions) be worse then competition but relatable to the average park skier. Like I said everything is too serious, everything is your lives work, and you put your life on the line. Mountain biking is way older than park skiing yet athletes are still pushing the sport as a minimum. Yeah I get it, we just got to a 4 and probably won't ever get past a 5 but there are still way bigger features out there and so many skier's who gain cult followings from swerving and doing the same shit as everyone else on ig. Also b Mack's music a not good.

ButteredToast. In regards to the new wave stuff, I just started paying attention to NS again in like early November after being mostly absent for a few years and it was like I had been plunged into some weird hellish fever dream, but I think I kinda get it now.
After hearing about it ad nauseam on Ski Gabber I looked it up and watched videos of Magnus and Wabs, and I had like a solid hour of this weird surreal experience of trying to get my bearings on this goofy ass trend.
"What the fuck is this garbage? Is this a meme? Is this some inside joke I'm on the outside of?"
After figuring out that these riders are totally serious with their hands waving fucking everywhere and doing weird shit I kinda started to understand. I think what happened (and this is my best guess at it) is that a few very talented riders saw what the competition scene was starting to look like, and started seeing what people like Henrik were doing in their videos and basically recognized that they were absolutely never in a zillion years going to be that good. And rightfully so – that level of skiing is absolutely nuts. It's a superhuman god-tier level of athleticism, agility, and gymnastic skill. The soon-to-be new wavers were talented, but they were never going to be the best of the best, and they knew it. I'm not trying to talk down on their skills because I will never be as good as they are, I'm just speaking realistically.
So instead of trying to be the best of the best, they had to do something to stand out and get recognition. What better way to make yourself stand out than dress like a goddamned jerry and do the most bizarre stuff you could think of? I am almost entirely convinced that this started ironically and then when it took off they just embraced it and now it's a meme gone too right and they're just going with it. Maybe now they're totally serious and fully enjoy skiing and dressing like that, but at the beginning I doubt it was a serious "this is who I am now" thing. Just look at Magnus' Superunknown edit from whatever year that was – he's all thugged out.
So, new wave came into the game and became a sanctuary for those who could not or were unwilling to go big and put their own flair on it. For most, it's a super low-consequence style of skiing. The irony is that it started as a way to buck the trend of bigger and bolder tricks in order to stand out, and now a large chunk of skiers are just blending into that trend wave as well.
There's nothing wrong with that and you can ski however you want and dress however you want. That said, I'm still allowed to think that:
A) you look stupid as hell with your track pants and hood under your helmet
B) The trend is an excuse for sloppy low consequence skiing
C) The style is absolutely terrible because you don't look like you're in control
But hey if they're having fun, that's fine.
Whew ok I had to get that off my chest, this new wave shit has been confusing me ever since my return to NS. I feel better now.
Rparryes, this is the dead horse that we have been relentlessly beating in the 3 years you've been gone. I'm one of the only regular skiers who still uses poles in the park at my home hill and all of the kids are starting to call me grandpa. Is this what getting old feels like?

Evantheshredsterskiing is gay, i think i might start snowboarding
Crust_StationHow do you know the sport’s sexual orientation?
Evantheshredstersorry i mean retarded, and its only for gay people

....... I feel better now.
ButteredToast.Yeah they’re for sure warmer. I just don’t wear mittens because I’m afraid I won’t be able to complete my rotations anymore and I’ll start landing sideways and washing landings out
So I only wear gloves to ensure I can land properly
WalkaHow tf could you consider this an unpopular opinion
Rparrwell then that makes you just as much of a fruitcake as us then, doesn't it?
theabortionatorThe spray paint lines at Killington look ugly and ruin the aesthetic of any feature they build. Clean lines are important on clean lines. The narrow lines don't look as good and almost always they're shaky, sometimes bad.
I know it's their thing but I always hope they'll stop.
CalumSKIThe green is also hard to see in flat light
AbiHSHINBANG IS THE BEST
AbiHSHINBANG IS THE BEST
teamSESHLol did you actually think this was a funny joke?
Evantheshredsterit's called "unpopular opinion thread skiers edition" for a reason dumbass.
MaimHelpBeat up skis and gear looks more dope than brand new everything
teamSESHYeah but she obviously doesn't like shinbang. She was trying to be funny. I think you're the one missing the point here bud.
teamSESHLol did you actually think this was a funny joke?
EvantheshredsterThat is the point.
FT's are sick outside of the unpopular opinion thread
brotoI had two pairs of full tilts. Never again. Those boots are ass
ButteredToast.Considered a pair of FT Descents because the bootfitter paired me up with those and the Dalbello Kryptons.
Out of curiosity, what didn't you like about the FTs?

AbiHI’m hilarious get over it
AbiHLol “unpopular opinions”
do ya need an ice pack for your butt hurt there bud?
brotoWeird pressure points on the top of my foot, shitty buckles that broke on me numerous times, irreplaceable contact points on the toes (at least on the classics I had) that would wear down and create a LOT of wiggle room my bindings over time, not very tight hold in the ankle unless I cranked down the buckles to the point it really hurt my feet, too much flex
They were cheap and worked/fit well enough after a heat mold, but switching to a pair of atomic hawx with traditional 4 buckle design made me realize how much I was sacrificing in FTs. My boots feel much more responsive overall and cause a lot less pain and inconvenience.
Granted I haven't tried their newer models but my experience with them was not great. Some of this is probably due to the shape of my foot and other personal differences... but yea. I'll probably never buy another pair
BiffbarfTeaching friends how to ski and seeing how stoked they get when they pick it up and gain confidence is better than even the deepest of pow days
JWillySkeezDavid Wise is extremely talented and mind blowing to watch. In general not trying to ride pipe skiers dicks, but they are the best (park) skiers in terms of raw skiing ability.
