midwesternmaniacSwervy buttery weird "new wave" whatever you wanna call it , type skiing, is great because it's exposing more people to skiing and making people see skiing as fun and cool , rather than a form heavy rich guy sport . Hell alot of the "new wave" stuff I see now , was stuff I saw line tc do like 6 years ago . All it did was make me go "I never knew skiing could look like that ", and I think it's dumb to hate on that . All the new stuff coming out now is progressing skiing and making it look fun . I'd bet real money more people whove never seen any skiing , would be intrigued by skiing and wanting to try , if you showed them that popular clip of Magnus that people are hating on now . If you showed them some guy throwing dubs, crazy tech rail tricks, or Tanner hall double backflipping a crazy cliff , they wouldn't care or feel drawn to it .

GrandThingsI agree that Magnus' skiing is more approachable. (Easier to hit a park bench than a 40 foot cliff)
But I think you're incorrect in that Magnus gets greater exposure or brings more people into the sport. The same people consuming his content are the same people watching Tanner Hall. Freeskiing is incredibly niche and arguably, projects with high production value (like Here After) are the edits more commonly watched by those not yet into skiing.
The nuances Magnus' skiing are incredibly difficult but the shuffles, butters, rail combos he does are not the type of skills noticed by people who dont already ski. In fact, I think it has the opposite effect as to what you're saying. He's a top level pro and the content he puts out is pretty cringy to watch. I dont think people who dont already ski would have any interest in watching a Bunch film, but everyone can appreciate someone hucking a double backy or dropping a huge cliff
midwesternmaniacWell I guess my argument is for appreciation vs approachability , I think at least personally seeing some simple unique manuevres get me more interested because my brain goes "hey maybe I could do that ". Not so much on a dub backflip . And yeah Magnus alone isn't the best example but regardless of who you pick ,I think "creative skiing" would cause more people to see skiing in a new way, than simply going huge . Lots of people watch clips of extreme sports and don't really care even if they appreciate it . But if they see something they could maybe do , they might be more inspired to get started ? If you feel where I'm coming from . I'm pretty sure what made me wanna ski was watching Andy parry do a ski slide 180 out off some stinky hand built rail ... Prior to that I'd seen a bunch of tgr clips, pipe runs , etc. I think the unexpected stuff is always more inspiring
GrandThingsTotally. Those early LTC episodes were the perfect blend of style/approachablity and gnar, deff agree with you there. They were one of the major reasons I stopped snowboarding and started skiing.
I just feel like Magnus is a little too 'out there' now for anyone to see his edits and be like "oh I want to do that." I just feel like if he cleaned up the style a little bit he'd be even more dope. I think LSM is a great example of this.
And, FWIW Magnus' part in Less is one of my favorite segments ever
midwesternmaniacI also think that Magnus being at his level probably knows he doesn't have to try as hard for a random insta clip so I feel like some of his stuff he's just goofing around to show he's having fun .. I loved his less segment and no matter what you're into I think there's no doubt the guy is skilled .. I think he knows what his real fans like and there's always gonna be a difference between when he caters to his fans vs trying to gain fans . As cringy or goofy as him swerving and bending around May look to some, I think it's hard to disregard that it's pretty pure .. very spontaneous.. he's doing his thing regardless of what any one says and he's doing a good job too . I think that lesson can be applied in many areas on life
crisscrossIts better skiing with friends on a powder day than alone.
Lance94Stickers on helmet = pro skier
r00kieSkiere care to much about fashion. I will rock my Free Country jacket and white cue ball helmet shamelessly.
LonelyI just picked up a pair of ataryx snowpants for 18 bucks at walmart. They're warm, black and cheap. If anyone throws shade at me they can fuck right off.
CheetodawgMidwest is stupid even tho I ski it
QuaffLanding off a rail sideways and continuing the last 90 of the rotation on the ground looks like shit and shouldn't count for anything.
theabortionatorIf you stall the rotation but upper body is turned and snap around the second you land it
Thot.exeWearing a sports jersey makes you look like a douche
Rum_HamHockey sweaters are the only exception
GrandThingsI think bball jerseys can be hit or miss too, but there is no acceptable circumstance to wear a football jersey.

gnarclancyEspecially if it is a Brady jersey
CLQI have Soul 7s as a rock ski and I still have fun on them skiing. They also got me into skiing again a few years ago so I can't hate on them.
Jesse_Do you happen to be a dentist and or post on TGR?
Jokes aside though I know a kid that fuckin rips on soul 7s, also drops fat cliffs to switch on em, kinda wack but he's insane.
XxAc1DtR1PxXDakine is better quality and cheaper than any other skiing dedicated outerwear brand.
Gloves are better than mitts (gotta be P R A C T I C A L
Baggy outerwear is impractical and annoying
mystery3I can't give you an thumbs up and a thumbs down apparently? You've made to we'll reasoned points about outerwear, but then you wrote that gloves are better than mittens which is a garbage opinion.

JemsI’ve absolutely hated the style of the bunch since day one and I still do.
ButteredToast.Only new wavers wear mittens which is a garbage style
IsitWinterYet17Mittens are warmer. Fact. Gloves are more functional. I wear both. Proud to be part of the new wave I guess.
