December 6, 2017 IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE
Dear LOOK Customer,
As we may have previously communicated to you, we have received information indicating that there may be a small number of LOOK Pivot bindings produced in our factory in Nevers, France, during a specific time period, with a technical issue that may affect their performance. In your purchase of a 2017/2018 LOOK Pivot binding, you may have received an affected binding.
We have completed our review of this situation, and we are moving forward with a voluntary recall of these bindings in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. We are recalling these bindings because the heels on some of them may have been produced with an upper adjustment arm that is out of spec, and when subjected to stress, the heel piece might come loose and cause a skier to fall or crash. In order to maximize the effectiveness of this recall we need your cooperation as described below.
One of 2 scenarios will exist for you:
1 – You still have your purchased Pivot bindings in the original box.
2 – You have had your bindings mounted and no longer have the original box.
Please follow the instructions below that pertain to your situation.
Scenario 1 – You still have the bindings in the original box
If your bindings are still in the box in which you received them, we ask that you check to determine if the production date of these bindings is between August 29, 2017 and October 31, 2017. The production date is printed on the label affixed to the box the in which the bindings are packaged. A picture of this label, with the date circled in red, appears below. Please note that the date is written DD/MM/YYYY, so August 29, 2017 will be written 29/08/2017.
If the production date on the box is NOT August 29, 2017 through October 31, 2017, the bindings are NOT in the recall group. No action is required and you may confidently use these bindings.
Note: Older inventory may not have the production date on the box label. All bindings with no production date marked on the box in the lower right corner of the label are not affected by this potential issue. You may confidently use these bindings.
Example in the photo – 19/4/2017 = April 19th 2017
If the production date of your bindings is in the range of dates beginning August 29, 2017 and ending October 31, 2017, these bindings are subject to the recall. Please contact LOOK Customer Service at 888-243-6722 for a free replacement. LOOK will send you a call tag and ship a new pair of bindings to your shop immediately. The Rossignol Group will pay the freight costs for this operation.
Scenario 2 – You have already had your skis mounted with a Pivot binding
If you have already had your skis mounted with new Pivot bindings, depending on the width of your mounted skis, you may be able to make a self-inspection of your binding’s production date.
Depending on the width of your ski, you may be able to simply rotate the heel piece 90 degrees to get a visual on the production date stamps on the underside of the heel. Typically you can do this on skis with 100mm waist widths or narrower. If you have mounted skis wider than this or cannot get a clear and positive visual of the production date, please skip to step #7.
Production date is stamped on the plastic heel lip on the underside of the heel piece. Good lighting or a flashlight and magnify glass will help make it easier to read the stamps. See pictures below.
On the left side you will see a single letter “A”, “B”, “C” etc. The red circle in above picture.
On the right side you will see a single number “6”, “7” etc. The green circle in the above picture.
Once you have verified a letter and number, please contact LOOK Customer Service at 888-243-6722 with this information for further instructions.
In the case that you cannot get a clear and positive visual of the production codes by simply rotating the binding on the ski, we require you to contact LOOK Customer Service at 888-243-6722 to make arrangements to ship your mounted skis to us for inspection. The Rossignol Group will pay all shipping costs for this operation. Alternatively, you may take your skis back to the shop where you had them mounted, and a trained LOOK binding technician can unmount one of the heel pieces and determine the production date. The Rossignol Group will reimburse any costs incurred to unmount and remount your binding. Please contact LOOK Customer Service at 888-243-6722 to report the results of this procedure.
As soon as you have contacted Customer Service, we will dispatch to you a ski box with a prepaid label to ship your mounted pair of skis to our Service Center. We will perform the necessary inspection, replace the bindings if affected and return your skis to you via 2 day FedEx.
Federal law bars any person from selling products subject to a publicly-announced voluntary recall by a manufacturer or a mandatory recall ordered by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
We thank you for your cooperation and assistance, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
