I already run a program for kids who want to learn about newschool...
It's damn fun.
There is no certification for newschool with the canadian ski instructor alliance... they give stages without certification.

Just talk to your local ski school. They should be running 'freeski' modules this fall at their clinics so that people can teach this aspect of skiing.

Same here I gotta pay for modules but I get some money back if a CASI(Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructor) certified. It's $250 for the freeski thing I'm getting mine at blue on the 3rd? of march. It sounds really easy to get. All you have to know is how to teach 180's, 360's, simple grabs and introduction to bump skiing.

many ski schools pay for half of your courses if you pass.
Talisman does it for level one, don't they?

They would pay for it cause I'm one of the three skier and I'm the only one who can do newschool stuff and they want a newschool instructor,...

CSIA is gay....dont give your money to these crooks...yeah instructings fun and shit
but the more levels you got, the more you have to pay every year...and the more you lave to lick the ass of some fat french dude...saying 'lets start up a park progression series'
naw..keep it underground...or else it'll be as wack as snowboarding.
Just my opinion....take it or leave it.

Not just in Canada You're internationally certified when you get your level 3. It's damn hard to get though. I know I guy who skis like a level 4 but didn't get his 3 because is explinations weren't precise enough. There real pickey about that.

This certification is new this year.
I've been involved in the planning process, because they don't know shit about park.
The level might be stupid, but it gives you insurance coverage and jobs at your mountain. What you actually teach the kids is up to you.
Anyways, for people doing the course at blue, I may be your examiner. We'll see. :)
I'll do my best to make sure that the course isn't too stupid, and that it's as core to the sport as possible.
And let me tell you if anybody is taking a course with me, we're going out every single night. :)
Peace.

i am sorry but if it's anything like the instructor certification, it's a total fucking joke.
Learn how to ski and then go for your coaching levels. That's when you make the real money.

When I got my level one, the level 4 guy who runned the stage told me that I could pass my level 3 in the skiing part but I would have to be better on my explanation. I f I get to it, I,ll only do the skiing exam of the level 4.

There's no prerequisite to the level 1 freeski. You can take it without having any other levels. They wanted to make you have some, but my friend and I said no fucking way.
What would you guys like to see out of this course? I'm going to a meeting on monday to discuss the curriculum of the 3 day course.
So post your ideas.

Wich course???? the modul????
If yes, it should be done like the camp I run...
You start by explaining the basic tricks and you give tricks to help. like for a 360: do a 180 and when you land , spin a 180 to feel the motion.. and stuff like that... since they are prolly not allowed to explain how to do invert, those program are so-so but it would be great if a lot of us go there and we take the course then go killing the park!!!!!! after the ski, we could have some BIG après-ski

The course dates are on the CSIA website and it's 225 for the course. I think the one at blue is in March or somehting.

It's going to be SUPER basic.
LIke we're talking:
Tables - grabs and 180. Maybe 360. (and oldschool tricks, )
Pipe - one foot straight air/linked run
Rails - 5' PVC.
Moguls
General skiing
Yeah, so really basic for the park kids. It's basically to weed out the people who can't ski park worth shit. What you do with it after that is up to you. Maybe they'll make more levels later, but for right now it gives us a license to teach park. Which is cool. It also gives you like 5 million in liability so nobody can sue your ass if they get hurt.

Man I was scared I was gonna get sued once. Because a kid threw a snowball into another kids eye in one of my classes. So I helped the guy up and another instructor asked me to take one of their little kids and then the guy who got hit with the snowball got up and started to beat up the guy with his ski. So I had one kid who temperarily couldn't see out of one eye and another kid that was hurt and had cut up ski pants from the edge of the ski. IT is scary shit to have a hurt kid in your group. Little kids break easily too.
