VinnieFI'm with you, I'm totally anti-Vegas. QC deserved that team so so so much more. Fuck putting teams in places where you can't even play the sport outside. Once they go through a 5 year rebuild without seeing the playoffs they'll loose all their fans in the blink of an eye.
Don't agree with Ovechkin. Fantastic hockey player, but I like to watch Russians loose. Don't like Russians and their lies.
Yeah, I mean, the west does need another couple teams, no doubt, but they shouldn't be in Vegas, necessarily... Seattle will probably be getting the next team here soon, but I'd have worked to get a team in PDX as well rather than Vegas.
It's worked out well so far there, but I have my doubts on the future. Placing judgement after one good season is silly. Every new team is ultra hyped. I mean, Tampa Bay was selling out their indoor baseball stadium of like 38000 people for hockey until they built their downtown arena.. I don't think they could sell that stadium out today even with Steven Stamkos on that team.
It's not like an Arena on the strip is "downtown" or something like you'll see in other cities like D.C. or San Jose or the aformentioned St. Petersburg, FL. Seeing as Vegas doesn't exactly have the same kinda structure as other cities. Hell, the whole place is so spread out with tract homes, I'm surprised anyone even knows who their neighbours are. I could see them having the same arena problems as Ottawa within a few years.
Those unfamiliar with Vegas - Nobody really lives down by the strip. It's actually closer to the suburbs of Paradise and Spring Valley than proper downtown Las Vegas... Casino's originally built down there because the land was cheaper... and it was cheaper because it was nowhere near anything. That's the reason why UNLV was given a land grant for the school way out there, and why they built the Airport there.
Hell... the Strip
isn't even within the city limits of Las Vegas! It's all in Paradise, NV!
