Anyone else get there pass pulled at vail resorts yet?

Love Vail, also love Disney World. The yellow jackets went a little far and swiped my pass after 2 offenses of riding switch??? Both story’s from the yellow jackets were also bunk, and highly fictional.

Yes not sure if Copper is vail but yeah my firend and I had our passes pulled last saturday. 8" day but only 3 runs open so it was a absolute zoo. I was in denver for the disco biscuits and copped discount day passes. We drove up at 6am and were maching groomers and poaching pow outside the run boundary ropes. Got some heat from the speed police so we quit for lunch and got drunk mid mountain. Then in the afternoon we were doing full on boot deep pow laps on brennans and CDL. @jamsandwich and I put 8 tracks down brennen in 4 laps before we got caught.

Some lifty noticed my shit eating grin and pow covered flannel. I asked if he wanted to take a lap and he said nah. When we got to the summit, the lift stopped right before we were able to get off, and I see a patroller walk over and knew the gig was up. Thanks Geo the patroller for being cool. Basically said he got a call, asked if we were the ones poaching, and asked for our day passes. So we handed them over and skied down one last run at 3:40 and drove back to denver for another epic tDB show. Rage rest repeat to loveland the next day

For future information. If you think they're going to come snag your pass because you were riding too fast, skiing switch, etc your best bet is to just leave the mountain.

If you give them your pass, the chances of getting at least warned are pretty good it seems.

I would recommend just calmly walking away from the mountain. Don't engage them and yell shit at them. Just stay calm, and walk away. They can't tackle you or anything. Also if you're not being a douche it makes it kind of hard for them to do anything.

That said in general, try to ski slow in slow zones, etc, brake check instead of flying into the lift lines. If you try to avoid conflict with them it's generally helpful for you.

Also, a lot of times they're posted up on certain high traffic runs, slow zones, right about the mazes by lifts etc. Maybe keep it mellow in those areas.

Copper isn't VR. How were the biscuit shows? I was going to try to go and start work late but ended up starting on the 10th at Northstar. I saw them a good amount this year though. Did you guys get into the fox?

Generally it's more just in high traffic or slow zones. Some old crusty people will bitch that it's unsafe/can't be safe. The thing is you'll have people mobbing down switch that really aren't as good at skiing as they think. Fuck up a turn, or not notice somebody and boom. Full on explosion of skis and other gear. The fact that that person was skiing switch and slammed into somebody adds to the recklessness.

If people are getting hurt, or afraid of getting hurt by other people it's not great for business. It's the same as going fast. Most good skiers can avoid everyone even if they're beginners making random turns. That said, somebody else might come through scorching and just slam through a few people.

TDB are at the top of their game right now. Greatest jam band of our time (phish are best composers/songwriters and jrad and the dead are up there too). You colorado guys are so lucky to get incredible shows and decent skiing and city life all in one place.
I put my finger up for four hours outside the fox and was given a free ticket right before the hopener began. It was glorious. Can’t wait for spring skiing and red rocks biscuits next year

Last year I tried to get into the Cheese show in Crested Butte. Only 130 capacity I think and most of the people there came every year for the red lady ball. It was stupid of them to play their imo. Half the people there probably didn't even give a fuck about cheese. They would have gone if a nickleback cover band was playing.

I was 3rd in line but after 2 hours I said fuck it and went down to Western State and got laid. I'm happy with that choice.

The biscuits were about the only band I saw between spring and now. Luckily their "touring" worked perfect with my travel schedule. Stoked to hear you got in. Figured it might be tough because a bunch of people could show up since if you didn't get in, you could just roll back to denver.

CO is sweet, I've never lived in Denver though. I like to stick to the mountains more.

Has anyone ever noticed that if a resort posts someone up telling people to slow down and be in control, they generally go after people skiing fast but in control who aren't really safety risks? It seems like resorts put them out there to placate gaper customers (majority) who bitch about anyone skiing fast, not so much for legit safety reasons.

When the place isn't crowded they can't really be like "Hmm, that guy said he started skiing when he was 3. He is expert level in the park and freeride. We should let him go" At a certain point it kind of has to be a blanket rule.

It sucks but for every person that can ski fast in control, there are a ton of people skiing fast that think they know what they're doing, that don't.

I am kind of impressed with the amount of baffles vail puts out. Especially at vail rail. It's almost an obstacle course sometimes just trying to weave through them. Then before the maze there will be like 15 slow signs in case you might not see 10 of them.

FUck I love VAIL man, its crazy!!! They really care about our skiing experiences. I love them so much I went on over to Epicpromise.com and gave them all my money. There really isn't a better company I would do that for. I hope the whistle blowing yellow jackets have hot wives and make 6 figures for their amazing work.

its shitty and maybe they do overstep boundaries but just slow down and don't start any shit with them.

If theres an altercation, just ski/walk away and head back to your car. Wanna lose your pass or call it early and just come back up tomorrow in different outerwear to stay low-key?

I tried disputing "poaching" with mountain safety at snowbird last year and it didn't really work, it was a dispute over me dropping into a zone where the ropeline ended but it was still okay to ski, but they weren't having it, so its better to cut your losses and ski away.

The ski patrol where I ski are chill as shit. They give me rides on the snowmobile to the top, let me borrow the work car, ect.

Last year my friend got his pass pulled after a heavy dump in vail he was in Lionshead and skated through the village a little bit to get the restraunt where some of his friends were and a yellow jacket chased him down and no warning at took his pass for the season during the best part of the season. He eventually got it back but was without it for a a few weeks and had to take some gay ass saftey classes.

I was at A Basin about a week ago and they had their yellow jackets out and got yelled at for, "skiing out of control" I had gotten a little air off a mogul that was a fair amount above the area where they were posted up but was perfectly in control. Even A Basin seems to be getting a little bitchy these days.

I got a warning for speeding at JHMR from Tom Bartlett, one of the OG JH air Force guys. I told him that I was aware of his antics back in the day and he should lay off, but he wasn't having any of my shit lol.

People who get caught by safety patrollers are just rookies. Just ski in control by slow signs, be respectful and as soon as you're past them, you can do whatever you want. I think its silly people get so upset that they got in trouble and every time the story is "well i was skiing kinda fast, but i was in control" or "i jumped over a rope, but it was already on the ground" or "i went switch and they got mad" ya no shit you're gonna get a warning in any of those situations.

I dunno how it is at other Vail resorts, but at Park City, they only really patrol the lower mountain and beginner runs, plenty of wide open steep runs all over the mountain you can go as fast as you want, just don't be a jackass when you head to your car, its pretty simple.

I've never even been warned by Yellow Jackets. I might sound like a jerry but why the fuck are y'all even mobbing in the slow zone. The signs are literally only at merging points and by lifts. First, it's dumb to haul ass across merging points because jerry doesn't watch for uphill traffic. Second, why do you need to go a million miles an hour into the lift line. It's dumb as fuck. It's not like resorts are putting up slow signs in the middle of bowls or positioning Yellow Jackets next to kickers. There's a legit reason for slow signs. They're there because skiing is a potentially deadly activity with literally no barrier to entry, any retard can rent skis and become a jean-clad Kamikaze. It's a stupid thought but maybe skiing should have a certification card like SCUBA diving, just teach people how not to injure themselves or others before setting them loose.

Yeah it's probably mostly people that are from other parts of the country that have no exposure to this kind of enforcement. This happened to me at whistler once when I was skiing down to the village and was going moderately faster than the hoard of children and first time skiers.

You'd think they would cross a dentist with a high price lawyer occasionally that would keep them somewhat in check. Idk

I almost went but just didnt feel like driving from ny to fl right befire driving to ca.

Also ended up waiting on things and couldnt have left early enough. Bummed i missed it and never made an aura either.

It's like driving on a highway. If you see a turnaround, slow down. There's probably a cop there and if not it wasn't that big of a deal to slow down for 15 seconds. Then just continue on with your life.

Yeah I feel you, I live like an hour away from Suwannee which was convenient but also kinda sucks because I live in fucking Tallahassee. You definitely need to make it to a Hulaween at some point, it's an amazing venue. Such a different vibe from these bigger/more mainstream festivals.

I agree, I used to think skiing in America would be sick, but all I've heard and seen is people talk about being given speeding tickets by ski patrols and having parents on rental skis chase people down the mountain to lecture them on the skiers code.

Sounds like you're skiing in a fucking crèche there, I've never seen or heard of that kinda stuff in years of skiing in Europe.

Meh it's just people bitching. For the most part you'll never have any problems. Also safety patrol/yellow jackets are only at some of the mountains.

Parents chasing you down could happen anywhere. It just depends if if you collide with a parent with ignorance and really strong instincts to "protect their child".

If that turns you off of the skiing in the states you're crazy. Plenty of sick terrain and awesome places to ski. Even some of the biggest most corporate places aren't bad at all.

The only reason the safety patrol exists is because idiots that think they know what they're doing don't know wtf they're doing and crash into people. People don't think. It's similar to driving. If you're driving and traffic is heavy and going 20 and you're flying in between them at 50 plus you could get pulled over and get a ticket, even if the speed limit is 60.

Early season there is limited terrain open and sometimes opening weeks are very busy with people eager to get out and pick up their passes, test their gear. If you have very few trails, many of those trails not full width, and a shit ton of people skiing, that can get ugly. Now if everybody on the mountain is funneling through a couple tight sections near the base or to get back to a lift, and you have some idiot cranking through full speed, that can cause a problem. If you're straightlining or riding switch through that crowd, especially right next to somebody in a bright yellow jacket that looks for that, posted up next to a giant yellow slow sign, you kind of deserve it imo.

And the people who get stopped. Being a douche right off the bat probably isn't going to help you. Even if you honestly don't believe you were wrong simmer down.

Once the mountains are open more, there are plenty of trails to go fast. 90% of the time the mountain safety are posted up on slow trails or main routes usually blues/greens that are high traffic. And as mentioned before they where bright yellow coats. If you see a bright yellow coat, make some turns and show that you aren't retarded or slow down a bit if you're slamming it and you're fine.

then youre learning an important lesson today: don't base your perception of shit on forum posts. for some reason it's like a rule that every forum post has to be some artistic work of hyperbole and exaggerated butthurt

ive been to all the places being discussed in these threads and ive even been "pulled over" a couple times for "speeding." the mtn isnt crawling with patrollers trying to bust people having fun, they are ONLY in slow/merging/beginner zones so beginners don't feel unsafe. it's pretty important that the people who actually fund ski resorts feel safe... im sure if you were learning a new sport you wouldn't want people whipping by you on all sides cause they were too cool to slow down near a family

this is all coming from someone who skis way faster than all you pussies combined (especially you! ya pussy!)

Not Vail, but in Revy a few years ago there was this old ski patroller that used to cut a corner on your pass and tell you it's gone after 4 corners are cut. Definitely targeting the season pass holder, but they were only ever at the last big roller right before the line for the chair, and mostly on weekends and peak times. Average Monday they don't care what the fuck you do. Most patrollers don't want to be that guy at the bottom, but it's their job to make sure people are as safe as they can be.
The only time you ever get in shit at any resort I've ever been to, is when you're doing something that you know you shouldn't. See a slow sign and rip past it? Yeah I've done it too before, but I know that what ski patrol is going to say if they see me doing it.
