Hating on new wave

i know i will get hated because of this, but lately I've seen very much hating on new wave skiing and skiers. it's really just trying to think more creative and do something else, not just k-feds and corks. i do still think that some take it a little far at times. but just that they think more creative is positive. think about the Vishnu team and The Bunch. that is what i call creativity. Magnus Granèr is one of the new wave skiers that is very out there, and he look like nothing really goes through his brain, but i had a small chat with him on IG and he had very much good to say about core skiing and skiing itself. he is also very interested in recycling winch is very positive. so i really think that new wave skiers do need some props. hope this might make you think different on new wave skiers
note: i do really like 2010 style, that's what i grew up on.

Agreed, new wave is dope, anyone bitching because someone is doing something new and creative on skis has a serious problem. If there’s anything wrong with the direction of skiing it’s the whole spin to win mentality, skiing should be about style, and that’s largely what new wave is.

i don't think you'll get hated on. New wave is very popular these days (one might even say it's moving into the mainstream), and more people are embracing it. But some of the hate that new wave skiing gets is justified though, cause ever since new wave skiing has become popularized, there are more and more people trying to imitate what they think new wave skiing is, and often end up doing a poor job of it. Not that this is a huge issue, but i have noticed a trend of kids trying to be ostensibly new wave with their outerwear, tricks etc. As I have heard other people say, kids these days are "trying to be the bunch." I personally dont really have an issue with this, but I can definitely see why some people do

Skiing doesn't have to be about style for everyone, that's just your opinion on what skiing should be. Style doesn't mean anything without tricks, and tricks don't mean as much without style. I know lots of people are hating on spin-to-win these days, and fair enough, but I personally see no problem with people throwing down tricks with huge rotations if it's done with style

Idk. I dig some stuff, but I never could get into the bunch. I know they were stupidly popular so they must be doing something right. Just wasn't my thing.

I guess it all just comes down to having fun and being creative. If you're doing something on skis and enjoying it, who gives a fuck if somebody else doesn't dig it. Freestyle skiing is pretty broad these days. Lot's of room for errrbody.

To the post above, I feel like you could say that about a lot of things. Hell, even when Andy Parry started doing hippie killers. I remember seeing kids that could barely hit a fucking box trying those all day. On the one hand it was kind of stupid, like learn how to ride the park a little bit. On the other hand, if you're having a good time and it motivates you to ski, keep doing it.

I think I probably like the new wave now more than some of the trends. The 50/50ing boxes and tranny finding the end, with absurd afterbangs but it's chill cause they have the illest outerwear was kind of whack.

But like I said before. If people aren't getting in the way, are crashing into people, and aren't breaking the features who gives a fuck. Whatever keeps skiing fresh for people both in actively doing it, and engages people that are watching it.

Yeah I realize I should have used a less assertive word, that wasn’t really the point I was trying to get across. Really as long as you enjoy yourself on skis that’s what matters, having fun, that is why we ski right?

I meant your other comment.

For the spin to win thing I don't mind it. It's allowed comps to branch out a bit and hopefully more in the future. Also the people throwing trips can probably do some of the steeziest laid out singles and dubs. Generally my favorite part of comps is the practice sessions when people are throwing absurdly steezy tricks.

Also now everyone, like even the little girl on hello kitty twin tips and her mother can throw down the tricks that used to win comps. I remember when mountains would have even flat or down rails that nobody would hit. Now we're building absurd shit and 8 year olds are throwing down proper tricks on them,

Yeah New Wave is actually better than spin to win and all of that fake skiing. Honestly who wants to watch people(WITH NO STYLE) do the same tricks day by day. Don't even get me started on POLES why do people ski with poles if they aren't carving or hucking off of cliffs? Also the baggy tall t style is so outdated and trashy it literally looks disgusting. For the record New Wave Skiing is the only skiing since Hot Dogging that is HYPE. Tell me would you rather listen to that pussy Tupac or would you rather listen to some fire music by Young Thug?

Skiing should be whatever the individual wants it to be. I have friends that have a ton of fun doing spin to win shit with no style and have friends who do smaller stuff with style. Saying that one way of skiing is the way skiing should be going is just dumb.

ahaha agreed.... I like the "new wave" stuff it's pretty sick but what gets under my skin is when they take them selves so fucking seriously. Like come on you're all a bunch (no pun intended) of white boys listening to shitty rap fucking hitting a little rail out side of the parking lot of Walmart in SLC... No offense to SLC or shitty rap, but really. I think it's funny that they get so so into them selves, you loose a little perspective. Also no offense ment to any of the skiers you are all much more talented then i'll ever be.

i personally laugh when i see kids doing “the wave”. They look like a bunch of monkeys waving their arms around. I respect the vishnu crew because they are insane with the style. It is annoying when you see kids buying vishnus and they can’t land normally so they use the wave as an excuse for style. I didn’t realize how big the bandwagon got until I checked how much the wets cost now. I remember when those things were $350-400.

I get the skiing. its pretty neat to see something new (even if it is just being to backseat so you revert out). and i get if you can't afford brand new outerwear but canadian tuxedos?? come on....

Any day I spend on my skis I’m a happy man. Why? Because I love to ride. The last thing on my mind is hating on other fellow skiers based off how they ride. Skiing puts a smile on my face. There’s no place in my skiing for ridiculing someone based off how they like to rip.
Although a specific style might not suit my fancy I’m still stoked to see people out having a good time! So in the end why would I hate on their skiing execution when they’re out here for the same reason I am. The mountain is our blank canvas, paint what you please! Just wear a mankini be yourself baby

I think the new wave is sick because it keeps the sport fresh and a lot of the tricks are wayyy harder then they look but when a kid who wears normal ski gear watches a new wave edit and then shows up on the hill the next day wearing a tracksuit waving his arms all over the place that just pisses me off. Style comes naturally its not something you can force like that.

Keegan has done some fucked up shit the last few seasons but everybody acts like hes the next tom wallisch, is it the way he skis or the way he dresses? If he showed up go the hill with track pants and fitted windbreaker he picked up from salvo what would happen?

Or if magnus comes to the hill in baggy pants and tall t’s but still does the same shit on skis, is it “cool” or “old wave” ?¿

Seems like the same conversation weve been having for years. If its not baggy and looked like it came out of a 2010 duncan lake video, we dont want it.

Skiers are hard to please.

I got out of M pants and switched to L pants, best decision ever. Granted the M pants were tight and I am 6’1 with no torso so the L is probably my normal size

So the battle is clearly between the tracksuit boys and the baggy people. But what about skiers like A.Hall and Daniel Hanka? They're pretty steezy. Which category do they fall in? They're not new wave, but they don't wear XXXL either...

I would ski in sweatpants and new wave style gear before it was even a hit, this was back in 2014. I’ll still wear just sweats too if it is hot out like I did all summer at T line.

I was never able to afford new reliable outerwear.. I had one pair of pants and 1 jacket. My pants got a hole in them so I just started wearing my Nike and Adidas sweats while layering up. Now I finally have a lot of good and reliable gear most I got for free from companies and others I scored a good deal on at Goodwill. I wear my new gear all the time as a reminder to myself of my come up.

One thing skiing in sweats before it was “cool” has taught me is that.. I let my clothes be the least defining aspect of my skiing. When i’m on the hill I’m never one of those “look at me and my fresh gear” dudes.. I let my skiing do the talking. I say.. wear whatever you feel comfortable in, trust me when you feel comfortable you will be more confident, and have an overall greater experience. You can focus more on skiing than looking good.

My issue with the new wave is that people say it's "original" and "creative" but how is it original if everyone is doing it. It's not impressive and I think it makes skiing easy. Also we are destroying features rather than using them. Hate me for saying this but I really think it just looks really stupid flailing around everywhere

Also, I don't think there's anything wrong with striving from the basic rail and jump tricks but I think there's plenty of other was to do it than just doing anything you can to make a 180 look flashy

why do you care what people wear, whether or not they use poles etc... maybe they like the weight of poles in their hands, maybe they rhink tall ts are comfortable, maybe that style is what they dig. Chill out and let people be themselves. "New wave" is all about finding your own style that you like. The music analogy doesnt even make sense in this situation, music is so ubsurdley subjective, some people get hyped to tupac a d think ypung thug is garbage

Dude. I think you lost the point here. Skiing isn't about hating. That is what i think shoud end. Love all kinds of skiing. I love watching old school edits and the more trendy edits. Love it all.
