What do you all think about skiing park with a partial twin tip? I’m wondering because I have a partial twin tip ski (Atomic Backland 102, yes I know that this is not at all a park ski) and I need to know if I’ll be ok skiing and landing switch. Luckily I’m more of an all mountain skier so I only enter the park a little bit and only do minor stuff so either way it won’t make much of a difference.
Landing switch off smaller features should be ok with partial twin tips, I don't recommend sending it on larger features like difficult rails on those tho, stick to boxes or small rails if anything, don't want to damage the bases too much
You'll be just fine, if you're not skiing slush or powder. I used to huck 5's on slalom skis and had no problems with the landing. I'd be more worried about damaging the backlands on rails. You can always buy some old beatup park sticks for dirt cheap for those days.
Hugo Burvall skied on a pair of non twintip atomics in a SLVSH game against Keegan Kilbride. he did very well. check it out http://www.slvsh.com/games/468?autoplay=1

That's actually wild. I wonder why he was on those?
Austin.skiyou will be fine. 20 years ago pros skied park on worst skis than those
Yep, we all used to have to worry about this back on the day. Even the best park skis had partial twins for a while, e.g. Rossi pow air, dynastar candide/concept, salomon 1080s I think
It's totally doable but not ideal obviously. Landing switch is NBD compared to taking off switch imo

That was pretty crazy. Not quite sure why Hugo decided to go without twintips but I’m sure he has his reasons.
s-handWhy do you want to ruin those skis in the park?

Well you see the problem is these are the only skis I have and unless I’m going to start skiing the park on my boots then I have no other option. I’m by no means a park rat or anywear near one I just enjoy the occasional lap and it can be fun to sesh it a bit. I am thinking about getting some park skis off Craigslist so I don’t have to drop a bunch of money and I don’t ruin my skis.
oxicleanAlpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the sport or recreation of sliding down snow-covered hills on skis with fixed-heel bindings.
Look up downhill racing. There is slalom and giant slalom and super giant slalom, next comes downhill which is in the Olympics and World Cup. Just like there are Slalom skis, gs skis(giant slalom), and super g skis, there are also downhill skis, which are very long because they are ment for high speeds.
That didn't post correctly and I realize you posted the same link but point being there is a specific event called downhill which is exactly what I've been arguing. So if you're getting technical, yes you could call alpine skiing downhill, but that doesn't change the fact that downhill skis are downhill skis

Thanks for the help!
When I was your age, there was no such thing as twin tips. ;)
Seriously though - before there was twin tips, many people started playing around with switch takeoffs/landings on dead flat skis.
I used to use the racing version of these in the park:
The skis you are talking about have more tail than that. Takeoffs are zero issue in a groomed park, and landings are almost never a problem... though if a landing is banged up with bomb holes I did catch a tail a few times.
I can't find a side profile of the Backland, but most tails these days have enough rise that you could probably bomb runs switch and be perfectly fine.

if you centre mount a pair of salomon qsts with 2020 pivots, the rocker profile its self will shatter any rail it comes into contact with as your body flails against the strong momentum of this behometh of a ski
Some kid just posted their season edit on here and most of the clips were on line sick days and he was killing it.
NS can crucify me for this one but I think if you’re actually ripping non twin tips look cooler..
In the long run You’re going to round off your edges underfoot and fuck up your edge grip on hardpack. Once that edge material is gone you can’t fix it with a tune. If it were me I’d just buy some shitty park skis for cheap on Craigslist or on here and save your good skis for skiing.

theres these kids at my hill that absolutely throw down in the park and they all got partial twins. not sure if they look cooler than full twin but its definitely unique. maybe its cool just because you don't expect someone on soul 7s to hit rails or anything mad
My old 9th ward MIPs had a super low tail like barely looked like a twin tip. Still rode awesome in the park. I was always worried about them catching.

Nice to hear I wasn't the only one who first leaned park on Sick Days
You’ll be totally fine. And honestly man by the way you’re talking, it doesn’t sound like you’re going to be tossing cork 9s on 50ft jumps.
If it were me, I’d just pick up some park skis though. Trust me, you’ll be bummed if you blow out an edge on your all mountain skis on a dumb little rail or something.
