New Warren Miller film

Warren Miller’s new movie called Line of Descent came to Denver today so I got to see it. Anyone else see it? Thoughts?

I've seen it, I went to it in Bozeman. It was the first time I saw one in theaters so I thought it was pretty cool. But, I got a lot of coupons for local ski areas so I was happy when I left.

The coupons are a great deal if you use them. I haven't been to one in a long time though. It's cool to see a premier in a big theater, but I generally stick to the smaller premiers. Also the whole level 1 thing

Yeah. Honestly it's fucking crazy to think that you can not have the right to your own voice. Fucking ridiculous I literally don't even under stand that still. So fucked.

As far as the movies I can't hate on the people who go. Most people have no idea about the suit, who level one is, that warren miller isn't apart of warren miller, and are just trying to get stoked for the season, get some coupons, and see some friends.

That said the whole situation is fucked.

Huh I’ve never actually heard of the Level 1 Warren Miller lawsuit before, maybe it was because I was in like 1st grade or something. What happened?

Warren Miller the man used to make Warren Miller movies. He sold the company to his son, who sold it for $$$. I think he sold it to time warner but then it eventually got bought by at least one other place.

Anyway Warren Miller the man, narrated the Level 1 Movie Refresh in 09. WME sued Level 1 for this. The right to Warren Miller the man, his voice etc, was part of the WME that was sold.


There are articles about it on freeskier etc, thread about it on here. I'll link some stuff.

I saw it tonight, and it is the same. The exact same. But the high stoke from everyone in the theater made it pretty fun.

Not only was it the most boring, non-creative ski movie I have ever seen. They made the sponsors so obvious by plastering ducati all over and putting in a good 5 minutes of two people riding their motorcycles. It was like watching one of those youtube videos that has a 3 minute ad in the middle of it. That aside, it was like watching a well produced resort webcam repeat itself for a solid 2 and 1/2 hours. The segments were the EXACT same with little variation other than location and music, which became repetitive and annoying towards the 2 hour mark. But the thing that really just murdered the movie, was the fact that the teaser/trailer they played before the start of the movie had a whole lot of freeskiing and what looked like some level 1 shots, but the movie had no park skiing whatsoever. I'm not saying it had to have a lot, but you don't tease Andri Ragettli's quad and then not put it in unless you're trying to make a shitty movie.

I couldn’t agree with you more. It just felt like the same thing over and over again but with different people and places. I never really felt like there was any sort of so called plot and in some places it felt like a really long resort ad.

Lol I use to always see the premiers at the same local theater every year with the family and friends. Always tight seeing raffles and getting passes and the amount of hype mostly from the somewhat die hard 55 year old dudes. Fuck their movies, every other pow segment was somewhere in Alaska, and the park segments always had shots from poor boyz shoots.

Never heard about the level one shit, makes me hate WM more, and seriously fuck Johnny Mosley’s narrating.

They didn't just sue Level 1, they also sued Warren Miller and told him he can no longer use his voice in anything.

That was a really really really long advertisement. Ive never seen a few people drink so much ester-c given to them by ester-c while grooming using groomers that sponsored the movie at a resort that sponsored the movie.

Let's be realistic too. the one dude who lives in a trailer has a brand new tiguan and two ducatis rocking the latest apparel from you guessed it.. another sponsor of the movie? yea.. really a ski bum...


but like others have said. its usually a good crowd of rowdy people yelling at the screen when a dude straight lines, so i'll let it slide.

There was just a weeee bit of product placement. Definitely not excessive.

Half way through the movie in South Denver. It is a disappointment. Spent around a quarter of the film so far on the surf-snowboarding hybrid. Each rider seems extremely uncomfortable in the akward interviews they have throughout the movie, there have been maybe 7 shots or lines which are shot all the way through, and numerous shots where a person lands and then immediately the shot is changed, which is very frustrating. It’s an unpopular opinion, but I enjoyed Here There and Everywhere but this film is just a disgrace.

Just finished the second segment. The most exciting part was the kid getting his tooth knocked out by his dad. Ruined the Silverton segment by not finishing a single line and putting filters which made your head hurt.

Overall, a disgrace, shouldn’t be allowed to use the words Warren Miller. Now I got a migraine from the constantly changing shots and filters.

i hated how they had urban shots at the start and then never had any in the movie, i hate wme. my town needs to start showing some shit that kids actually give a fuck about.

I've never heard a bunch of weekend warrior gapers whose only exposure to skiing is WME and care more about their boots matching their skis described as a "good crowd of rowdy people". As far as I'm concerned, anyone who brags about attending WME premieres are joeys that need to be avoided at all costs.

I go to the showing at the palace theater in albany ny and people are rowdy, throwing stuff from the balcony, yelling and drinking beer. not sure how it is where you are but thats like a traditional crowd for WME films here.

Yes and I only posted something mellow like L1P > WME. At that time, I think they were getting a huge wave of people posting on their social media pages and banning anyone saying anything about the lawsuit. It was during premiere season, so I can only imagine the nightmare they were dealing with and having to answer to their sponsors' concerns. It was great seeing everyone coming to L1P defense. Too small of an industry for that kind of BS.

Dead ass it was the worst ski movie I've ever seen. Not trying to hate in anyone who saw it/gonna see it or liked it, but it was WAY too long. basically 2.5 hours of really good editing, crappy music, repetitive storytelling and no skiing. Like no joke, you rarely saw two turns linked together. I was all just slow motion/quick shots. Not to mention the whole motorcycle segment was just an ad for them. Compared to the current paid movies (Level 1, Good Company, TGR, MSP) it was not worth the money. Not to mention that there is free stuff (Sammy C 24, Big Picture, the Bunch, T HAll's movies, etc.) that is 1,000,000 times better and costs nothing. And WME tried to screw over level 1 which is a dick move in an industry where its important that everyone supports each other.
