New to Editing/Help

I want to get into editing, but I am currently broke and my computer doesn't even have a stock editing software. Is there anything quality that I would be able to torrent? I've been talking to my adviser about possibly changing my major to film/editing so a better program is preferred.

I've heard Premiere is the top of the line software, so that would be ideal. I doubt that is easy to torrent however... I just dont want some imovie shit.

Davinci resolve is free, as long as you can run it.

Not the most ideal program for editing, most people just use it for coloring... however It will do you better than something such as iMovie would at teaching you editing basics.

The cheapest quality editing software I have used is Pinnacle Studio, Other than that I use Adobe premier pro and after affects, although there is a free trial for adobe products and there is a way to re-number the trial to get unlimited trials, Just look it up on youtube.

it will be hard to dive in to premiere pro as your first editing software. I started out on iMovie making all my videos and it really provides all the tools you generally need. Definitely get premiere pro, but maybe wait until you have made some shit to see where you're at and then buy it because its also expensive as shit

I started on imovie and switched to premiere pro. Learning how to use premiere is hard at first, but if you watch enough videos, you can get the hang of it within a reasonable timeframe. And it really is top of the line

Just download the free trial for premiere pro and see how you like it. Now that adobe is cloud based you don't have to pay the $1k price tag. Since you're a student I think it's only $10/month...maybe less.

Final Cut is mad easy to torrent and pretty simple to work with but it can still do a lot, would recommend

Update on this. I got the free version of Hitfilm and its honestly underwhelming. Its too basic for what I was looking for. Maybe there are no free editing software options that have color correction and more advanced aspects of editing. I didn't explain that Ive made probably 6 edits (IG and vimeo) so I'm not entirely new. I will also say that the free version still has elements that I am unfamiliar with, but I haven't found a reason to use these for anything I've been working on yet.

The free version is also confusing since some features are blocked off and I can't tell if its actually blocked off or I'm not applying them properly. My school has Premier on some computers so I'm going to give that a try.

I never used Hitfilm, I trust Ryan Connelly on his opinion so for a free program you can't expect to much.

Download Davinci Resolve..... If you are looking for good color correction the free version is what I use after editing in premiere, it is also pretty nice when editing in it as well..... If you need tutorials on how to use it check out Casey Farris on YouTube.
