How long is too long?

im about 5'9" and this season I decided to buy 2017 line blends that are 178cm.. Im yet to ski them,my previous skis were line chronic 171, I should have stayed with the same size since im done growing but im wondering how noticable an extra 7cm could really make?

I'm 5'9 too and rode 178 blends last year. Perfect size imo, I don't notice them being much harder to spin then my slightly shorter 176 ar7s

You could ride 185s if you really wanted. 171 is ridiculously short for 5'9". I'm 5'9" and my shortest skis are 182.

i mean your ski length depends on where you ski (park, all mountain, etc), but even if your skiing in the park, 178s are probably fine. The blends have a lot of early rise and being a softer ski, they're generally less stable than stiffer skis of the same length.

He can ride whatever the heck he wants no matter where he is riding. Its all preferance in the end

185 would be more than possible....but 178 is an okay size. I definitely wouldnt go down to 171 though. That would be pretty short, especially with the rocker

you're totally right, if OP prefers to ride 185s in the park, then of course he's welcome to. But don't try and tell me that 185 is anywhere close to the optimal length for a 5'9 park skier. Being that height and riding skis that long will definitely make it harder to do anything involving spins.

If he is an advanced skier he easily could. Especially with a ski with such little swing weight as the blend. People really tend to overestimate how much 7cm is going to affect you. Unless you are doing 800s onto rails or futurespinning it's not a huge deal. Lift some weights.

5'10 and 155 my shortest ski is 186 and my daily is a 189/193. Depends what you want dude.

If he is worried about going up to a 178, it might not be the best for him to go to 185....but it's more than possible, and after a day or two I doubt he would notice.

You can't make the blanket statement that someone who is 5'9 can't be skiing to their highest ability on a 185. Way more goes into it

I wasn't saying it was optimal, I was just saying he could get away with it.

OP will be fine, perfect choice of length in my opinion. I had a pair of 188cm last year (I'm 186cm) which felt absolutely perfect. This year I've gone down to 184cm since I got a good deal on a pair, I haven't tried them out yet but they will probably be fine.

However I noticed there's some good deals on Icelantics which size by 171cm, 181cm, and 191cm.
The tallest ones would probably work fine, but it do seems weird to ski a 191cm in the park.

Preference. I'm 6'2 195 and I ride anywhere between 182 park and 186 tight trees. If I get into touring I'll probably go 190+

My shortest are 180's which are my park skis / beater skis. Usually ride a 185-190 for the most part. I'd size up on a pow ski to low 190's also if it had the right rocker profile, flex, etc. Im 5'8; 175

I'm 5'8" and on blends this season @171. I sometimes wish I got the 178. You're more than good on those.

Is this due to both weight and height? I’m over 230 lbs and around 5’9” and ride a 173. I didn’t mess up buying the wrong size I hope.

You should be fine actually. You posted threads and you're getting into skiing. Usually when you start skiing your skis stay on the shorter size so you can turn easier. Last year I was 5' 10 and I rode 164s. You are all good. I'm 5'11'' now and ride 177s
