Shopping online if you are under 18

I got away with just giving my parents the cash and using their accounts before but if the item I need isn't absolutely necessary like christmas presents and stuff, they won't let me get it. My town has a dollar general and that's it so I can't just walk to the mall to get the stuff I need. I have a bank account with plenty of money but I can't use it because teens have zero rights when it comes to shopping online, so I was wondering if you guys know a way around it.

Get a debit card, set up a PayPal linked to your checking account, some sites let you pay via e-check, go buy Visa gift cards, etc.
Not that hard, you have plenty of options. There's no such thing as rights when it comes to kids. It's just who is smart and responsible to have a method of payment and who has the cash.

Yeah that was a poor choice of words I knew about getting a paypal linked to my bank account but the contract you sign when you get paypal fucks you over if something happens to your account and you are under 18 but i'm overthinking this i'm probably just gonna do it anyway or get a debit card. We don't have zero rights it's just frowned upon most of the time. Obviously businesses don't want kids buying whatever they want with their parents money but if you are responsible and make your own money being under 18 I don't see why companies couldn't make it easier for you to spend it.

What? I have never once heard of a company that frowns on you if you were under 18? how would they even know? I can promise they dont give a fuck nor do they know.

Unless you are trying to buy booze I really dont understand the issue

The story of my fucking life. I messed up again it's not companies but the ways you pay for stuff, like if you are over 13 and have your own bank account paypal should let you use their system without having to lie about your age and violating the terms of service. Which would give online companies more business from teenagers.

Just use PayPal. Stop fretting about the unlikely chance something bad happens like your PayPal gets hacked, assuming your password isn't password1234. Just stay off sketchy porn sites and you should be good hahaha. Or you could use cash to buy prepaid debit cards. Or use your bank card (I'm assuming teenagers can have a debit card). Depending on your bank, they may cover you for fraud in online transactions if it occurs and you used your card. I know it has for me in the past.

yes. they cover everything. I have had my cards info stolen multiple times and it has to be refunded. They legally have to cover you.

Get a debit card from your bank. If you have some weird account with your parents, or savings account try and open a checking account. Might have to have your parents permission though, not sure.

That said you can get prepaid cards at the store with cash, and then buy stuff online. Only shitty thing is there that you have to activate the card after online to use it. Not hard, just a pain in the ass.

Dollar general might not sell prepaid cards though. Might have to wait till you're at a bigger store.

Prepaid cards are the way to go. I remember back when GTA 4 came out, I rode my bike to the grocery store and bought some prepaid cards then ordered the game online. According to my mom 14 was too young to buy M rated games but I showed that bitch it's never too early to break the rules. #yolo

ayy go easy on the lad, I remember being scared as shit to put my information online when I started using my own card. It's not always common sense for some people to link something that isn't a visa to the internet either.

Paypal would be great, just make sure the account is linked to an email you are constantly monitoring. Any activity gets emailed to you.

Using debit cards online is a little tiny bit risky, because its not easy to contest charges on the card like you would be able to with a credit card. If you have a bank account, you should have a debit card. Your parents probably have it though.

Personally I think paypal is dildos. Unless you're sending or receiving money from people regularly. If you're selling/buying ski gear on here etc.
Way too many stories of paypal fucking up peoples shit and freezing or straight up stealing their money. I'm still locked out of my original account.

I use it only if I absolutely have to. Idk why the hell anyone would rather link their paypal to a bank account than use a cc. I think you needed to have it linked to make one but mines linked to a TD account I closed a couple years ago.

Just set it up so it draws automatically from your bank account. That way no money sits in PayPal, but you still pay with it

Credit cards aren't a thing until you're 18 so shit from the internet is harder to get but thanks to this thread I know how.

I don't think a minor can get a checking account without a parent, which is kind of the basis for his whole problem in the first place. I think you should do the prepaid visa gift card route. Probably do a test purchase before you convert all your cash to that format. You might be able to link that card to a PayPal, but I kind of doubt it, with the cards they keep on file there is usually some other kind of verification required, idk.

The other thing I was going to say is keep bothering your parents. Like every day. Eventually they will get worn down and get tired of micromanaging your life.

The only way around your problem is buying a shitload of bitcoin with your parents credit card, opening multiple offshore bank accounts in Switzerland to dodge the IRS and gaining citizenship through the Democratic Republic of Congo. Good luck
