What's some skiing etiquette?

Hi, I was just wondering if there's a more proper way to ski with friends? Things like skiing behind, along, or in front of them? What're some things that I shouldn't do? Thanks :P

with people who arent too good, i like to let them go ahead of me and choose their own pace, and that way i can stay above them and not lose them but also be free to kill time and then go so that i don't have to go as slow as them

with good riders it's usually more every-man-for-himself. a lot of times it's better to just agree to meet at the bottom if you get separated. but if youre doing anything remotely dangerous, it's best to only go one at a time and keep eyes on each other so you cant get hurt and ditched at once

as for park lines, usually you should try to be polite and call next drop etc and know that the landing is clear before dropping. if youre on the knuckle and someone eats it, stand where youre visible with your poles crossed over your head to let people know not to go. touching your fingertips in an arch over your head means the opposite: "good to go"/landing is clear

grab shit for people if youre uphill of them and they drop something so they dont have to hike back up

also you dont need to be too fawning but i like to pole clap or hoot if someone does something sick, and generally be nice and smile at people. way too many parks with negative/super duper serious vibes

if youre feeling vibed out, say waddup to someone or ask them the time or how the speed is for something. the vast majority of people are way nicer than they appear... just like in real life

All depends, if you're cruising around the mountain in a deep crew usually free for all until an important turn or something and you stop, but if I'm just cruising with 3-4 homies its full on see ya at the bottom.

As for the park, at least at park city there are 3 very distinct stops, top, jump line and top of gutter alley (lower rail line) and despite size, you usually hang out there until everyone gets to those points. I usually cruise the park with a big crew, but plenty of people just hot lap with 2-3 people, with a filmer or even solo, just feel out the flow and don't stop in stupid places.

Ok for real tho, be nice in lift lines. Everyone’s done it, but you always forget that there’s kids around and drop some ‘bad words’ but parents get upset pretty easily.

Also when it’s time for the lodge and food, make room for other people if you’re at a huge picnic table. Sharing is caring and too often people sprawl their things everywhere and it sucks for others who just want a place to eat their $15 burger on their vacation and everyone’s being a jerk about seating. (Same for bars, don’t pile your crap on an empty chair for no reason unless that place is absolutely dead)

Calling drop is a big thing. It's different at different parks. Some are free for alls where people snake you but at others you'll get a talking to if you snake.

This is super underrated because I feel like a douche if one of my homies is saying "fuck" every other word in the lift line or on the chair with someone we don't know.

Give em a slight smack upside the helmet and say "hey man there's kids around" at a slightly higher than normal volume. Usually keeps the parents from freaking out and let's your buddy know he's being an idiot.

Yeah sometimes when there's 20 people anxiously waiting for a feature calling drop makes no sense. You just gotta hit the jump together 5 people at a time, survival of the fittest

not really etiquette but if youre a group of like 4 do a couple friendship runs top to bottom. everyone holds hands if you let go youre a loser

Always try to be nice and share good vibes with others. It's always sick when someone gets stoked for a trick you do after all. Don't be a fucking dick and snake every single person at the top of a feature either haha.

Another thing I'd like to add is just don't be a fucking heckling asshole to beginners. We were all beginners once and I remember feeling like complete shit when someone would call me out for being garbage, don't be that guy.

Follow the code, dont litter and try to chat up anyone on the chairlift. When riding with people and friends, give them space, wait up for them and be a good spectator or performer. Avoid bragging, but claiming is fine.

In cliff areas, dont ride lines under cliffs if you arent gonna hit it. Nothing sucks more than an icy, tracked out landing. Respect peoples lines. If a crew is sessionning a hit, ask before going for it. Nobody will ever say no... but its disrespectful to poach someones line.

In park, dont ride landings and dont hit rail lips as jumps. If you are not gonna commit, ride beside. Call your drop in and respect the line up.

Adding to what everyone else has said it just be cognizant of your surroundings. Look uphill when crossing a run, try not to stop in the middle of runs or in the landings of anything whether it be side hits, jumps, cliffs or rails. Slow down a bit when there are tons of kids and gapers around. You may be in control but they might not be and no one enjoys getting taken out
