Would a 102mm waisted “do it all”?

Thinking of getting a 102mm waisted ski. I’m looking for a ski that will take me through hard-pack and do me well on those powder days. It’ll be my only pair of skis. Thoughts or suggestions?

Depends where your skiing. Colorado dry snow? Sure 102 would be more than enough. West coast snow? Maybe 110.

this. Where are you skiing? I couldnt imagine skiing 102 everyday in sierra cement.....in Montana or COlorado it would be more than possible. Also, what ski>

I’m mostly skiing East coast, but I’m also going West coast more than often (I would say I ski 70% of the time East, and 30% West).

I’m thinking about Faction’s CT2.0.

I have been riding 82mm blackeye's and just picked up a pair of Atomic Backland 102's for my Utah trips. I've been told that they are fine in the Sierra Cement because they are a slimmer back country, big mountain ski. They come highly rated and two people I know up here in Tahoe love. Plus, they are the best value; got last seasons model for $349. They are supposedly super playful and very good on hard pack.

I had a pair a few years ago amazing on hardpack definitely not the most playful but it’s still a fun ski.

Do you mean you had the Automatic 102, which was the previous version? The one I’m getting is reported very playful, which I hope is he case.

One more quick question - realistically, how much of a difference is there turning-wise (in rough snow) between a 102mm and a 108mm?

Depends on the skis.

Different rocker profile, sidecuts, etc etc etc.
For example, the Wren 108 and the Kartel 108 are VERY different skis although they share the same width.

I had the automatic which was the same thing without HRZN tech if I’m correct

One thing to think about is the flex. I have personally hand fled the 2.0 and its surprisingly soft. I would go to the 3.0 which is wider and stiffer.

the 3.0 is a softer ski but the 2.0 is extremely soft

Nice. Was tempted to buy the 2015 (black and blue ones) as demo with demo binding but then; decided would be nice to have a new set up for a change with a good binding.

I have the Moment PB&J, which are 101mm and use it for 90% of my days skiing, everything from firm to up to 6-8" of pow
