Park_RangerKeystone would always have a super dope rail park ready to go opening day. I don't think they built it last year, focusing on getting A51 and the big lines open.
Breck focuses on building Freeway for the Dew Tour course. Sometimes they build a little jump line and some rail options at the top of Park Lane, but they didn't do that last year.
With that said, I'm pretty sure that Copper builds a really good early season rail park.
So many preseason edits at said resorts that you can check out
gucciman7Hey
I’m the Park Manager at Keystone. To inform you we will open up a earl season rail line and a couple jumps. Although we usually focus on a51, we will now require a pass to get into our park. Sorry for the response.

mulzKeystone will be pushing opening day back for sure, or they will attempt to download via the gondola and will be a shit show(They literally have no snow below mid mtn right now). Breck will have practically nothing on opening day if they actually open, definitely no park. Unless the weather patterns start changing soon it will be slim pickings all the way around until mid-late december at least.

drumbumocdpif you can ski Keystone, fuck Breck entirely.
Park_RangerIs this just for Park, or would you say for overall skiing in general? Always curious to hear local opinions on those resorts.
drumbumocdpI hang in Keystone quite a bit. They will open on Friday, with downloading on the gondola. Id guess no early season park, maybe a couple rails by next weekend. A51 will be going to some degree by Thanksgiving, and Breck has put all of their attention to Dew Tour the past few years so there is very little to no park there early season, and if you can ski Keystone, fuck Breck entirely. Best bet is to hold tight on the basin rails or go to Copper
drumbumocdpIm definitely bias towards Keystone because I work in the village and ski it and the basin a ton. Dont get me wrong, if you get breck on the right day, it can be great, there just seems to be a lot of hoops to jump through to actually get there.
Parking is a bitch, and i dont like to pay to go skiing. there is only one free lot in the whole town and its a 10 minute shuttle to the gondola that brings you to the bottom of peak 8 which is the busiest ski lodge in the world, totally full of chads. if youre there to ski park, you share a lift with the bunny hill and will LITERALLY not have a chair ride where it doesnt stop.
there are good zones, but they are surrounded by green runs and cat walks everywhere.
The hike to stuff is fun and can be awesome, if its open and not skied out. Breck is the windiest place on earth and the upper stuff stays closed for a long time because of it.
IF youre in summit looking to ski steep, just hang out at A-basin and forget the rest.
The good news is, you can ski a lot of spots on the same pass, so if there is a better forecast down the road you can go there with a moments notice. and you have all season and will without a doubt have a blast
There is a keystone abasin pass for like 350 that can keep you occupied a long time. Keystone is for sure not the gnarliest mountain, but i love skiing their loooong tree runs and there are some super awesome stashes that none of the chads find.
what i have found is a lot of people in the area are ether a Keystone/absin skier or stay in breck all winter... theres also copper, but work buys me an epic pass so im kinda out of the loop there. From my experience, copper has a great mountain to ski, but i think their park is super Meh compared to keystone. there are plenty of people who would disagree with me though
LivingDaLifeThere will be an early season park but it will only consist of a few rails (similar to last year's early season park once they got it going but in a different spot). This is what I heard from Park Crew. They're aiming to open the main park (most likely just rails) around Thanksgiving.
drumbumocdpBirrion?
Cody P. here.
TrabekWe're out here blowin snow at Breck. Got everything fired up on 4 O'Clock, Springmeier, and Freeway trying to get ready for Friday. Don't think the park will be opening for a while because we have to focus on Dew Tour.
mulzI love dew tour weekend, but I swear the longer I live here the more I'm convinced that is the worst possible weekend to have that event. Seems like every year they scrap as hard as possible just to get it put together. Then you get freak accidents like last year where they got everything for the new course finished then they couldn't even use it cause of the storm that came through. Just seems like a terrible allocation of resources especially when its a crap shoot for them to even get everything together.
TrabekYeah, let's just say not everyone is on board with it... But Vail likes the money it brings in during the slower part of the season. I heard something about renewing the dew tour contract this year, not sure which way they are leaning on that decision.
jlens05I'm planning on skiing Friday-Saturday this week, you think itll be worth it to go to either Breck or Keystone at all? Or should I just stick with A-Basin for a while?
mulzYeah, I always assumed it was the $$$, which is a bummer. Just in my tiny pea brain that knows nothing of ski resort economics, you'd think they'd be able to pull just as much money if not more having it like the 2-3 week of January, after the holiday rush, and typically a dead time. Plus more of your mountain would be open and they wouldn't have to rush the park build/neglect the rest of the mountain during crucial snow making time(Nov-Early Dec).
