Lav Mic?

Has anybody had any experiance with using a lav mic/lapel mic for shooting skiing? seeing as it could be closer to the skis and ground it could seem like a good idea but not sure. Let me know if there's any other audio solutions I should check out.

I've never used a lav mike for skiing, my guess is it would not deal with the wind noise very well at all. If you're gonna do any kind of interview ever they're super handy though.

you could get one and just spend a day recording your own foley, so you just have a library of ski sounds to use in your edits. but yeah wouldnt wanna have it directly on the skier cause of wind noise and such.

My brother and I use a Lav for recording his car exhaust note when he is racing. I suggest using a shotgun mic, on a boom if possible, foley it that way. The reason we use a lav for his car is because it is small and can be mounted easily without interfering with car aero and such.

That's what I'm gonna do this season. Gonna be a boring day but It'll be worth it. I'm considering putting that library together and then selling it for like $10 for like 100 sounds or something

I remember Gavin Rudy, @Toast on NS, posted that he's experimented with a lav clipped near a skiers boot and wasn't stoked on the results. My memory might be off though so I'd love to hear more from him

I picked up some sennheiser lavs at the end of last ski season for interviews but I'm stoked to play around with them on hill this season, maybe clipping them under rails and crazy places like that. I really like the idea someone posted above of taking a day to focus solely on audio, since followcam audio sounds windy to me no matter how hard I try with deadcats and windblocking :(

I think a few years ago Teton Gravity used them to get the sounds of skiers talking and making comments while skiing. I think it was Paradise Waits but I might be wrong
