Ski the east freeride tour 2018

Is anyone here going to ski this event. I just moved back east and from Colorado for 6 years. I heard/saw this event on YouTube. I'm gonna do it. Hardest tricks I saw were 3s. I'm gonna throw some switch tricks and hope I can take at least one stop home. Stoked for this. Anyone have any thoughts in this? Or have competed and can give me some tips. Terrain looks dope just super icey but that's what the east is all a out. Hope to see a bunch of NSers out there! First stop is mad river Glen.

I'll be doing it this year but this will be my first year too so idk what to really expect either. Do you know if sign ups have opened yet?

just an fyi they seem to judge it more on skiing rather then tricks, i think several people have won first with no tricks when 2nd and 3rd are doing flips.

I wish they would come back to Maine already

Yes. As far as the out west ones ive done skiing more technical lines smoothly and having good technique is very important. If you are hucking tricks you better stomp them....backslaps etc really take a hit on your score.

Yea bros. I agree I'm not saying I'm gonna just huck it. Im gonna rip a super tech line and throw in a switch 1 and then a 3 somewhere in Between some super fine ass turns. Ya feel me? But im mostly stoked to meet some new people and have a fun time. I'm really looking forward to it. I plan to try to ski each place the day before. Seeing as I haven't skied Vermont in 7 years. East coast is my roots though.

If anyone comes through Springfield ma on their way up I'm down to car pool. It would be rad to have a person to go with rather then just going solo. I have a car but would be dope to not make every drive. Hit me up my dudes! I got the max pass too so I'll be shredding all over! Always down to posse up!

Been doing the tour for 3 years, done pretty well in some stops, podiumed at Jay last year. They rarely score a run filled with tricks higher than a smooth technical run. Look at Andreya Zvonar and Dylan Dipentima, they'll barely toss a 3 in a run but they ski so technically well and smooth that they win. My buddy that i do the tour with got 2nd at Magic a couple years ago without a single spin meanwhile everyone else in the top 5 were doing flips. Theyre super fun events and its great to see the community get together like that.

No inverts at any of the venues except Magic. Scoring is based on line choice, fluidity, technique, style, and control. So tricks dont do much, but stomping big sketchy cliffs are the path to victory. Super fun, not serious contest, would recommend to anyone.

Have they posted the dates yet? I can only find the dates for last years comp, someone post a link? Definitely gonna be doing it this year, last years event looked awesome and now that Im living in vt I have no excuse

They usually release the schedule at the end of December/Early January

STEFT uses IFSA judging criteria. Line choice usually ends up being the most important because every other category is based around this. A really difficult line skied poorly will can lose to an easy line skied well and vice versa. For every category aside from style, you can only score +-3 from your line score, so if the line you picked is considered a 7 by the judges, your technique/control/fluidity can range from 4-10. There's more info on the IFSA website.
The events are a lot of fun and you should try to make it to as many stops as you can.

No but you should get one because if you do well you'll earn points towards higher level freeride competitions like freeride world tour qualifiers plus it's a cool organization

Its not about how hard your tricks are its about how hard it is to do the trick. Sw 1 off a 10-15 foot cliff is cool but you're not winning doing a sw 1 off any jump. Hit the biggest rock you can find thats how you win.

It's really not even about tricks(talking from experience). Just ski a super technical line with style and grace and you'll do well.

I’m speaking from experience at Sugarbush where guys like Noah and Andreas are doing backflips and threes off the head wall. That’s what I meant by how hard you make it to do the trick meaning how difficult the feature you do the trick on is
