Well 3000 americans died on 9/11 and look at the fuss that was kicked up.

I'm not treating anybody like stupid negros you ignorant ass. The fact of the matter is that there are countless things that Africa needs help with. Because they need aid doesn't make them dumb niggers. If you had cancer and a medical professional wanted to help you would you say no because if you do you're a lesser human?

The American 'Whitey' wastes more every day than the rest of the world combined. Don't you think it would be nice if things changed? How idealistic of me.

there are places in Africa where Africans, not any body else, have stepped up and change tons of things. They've slowed disease, have tought people about birth control, and began schools. Let them do it there way, and they will be better becuase of it.

If children were actually able to survive the first years after birth then I'm sure that they may stop having children all the time.. that's a huge part of the problem. In a lot of places it's a numbers game and the more children you have, the more chance they have for survival. Also, more children you have the more help you can get with your farm or doing daily chores or whatever.
But, at that case, the more people that exist, the more of a strain it can take on your resources (too many mouths to feed).. and the cycle starts again.

No Money
The problem is so basic...there is not enough money to fight the disease. Prevention efforts in the western world centers around education, condom use and testing and counseling. And statistics show that while HIV transmission has not been eradicated, these measures have helped dramatically. Unfortunately, for those living in Sub-Sahara Africa, the availability of these important prevention techniques are rare. Without HIV education, Africans continue to be in the dark about how they can change behaviors to halt the spread of the disease.

Without condoms, heterosexual transmission continues to soar. Consider this. In some African nations, 1 in 3 adults are infected with HIV. Unprotected sexual contact is common, making transmission more likely and more widespread.

And finally, widespread testing and counseling is just not available. Of the 24 million or so with HIV, a large number of them do not know they are infected. Because of this, heterosexual contact becomes a major transmission route of young adults in Africa. The combination of not knowing their HIV status and the lack of available condoms, allows unprotected sexual transmission to continue.

To combat this lack of funds, the United Nations is urging developed countries to fund the war on HIV. Experts place the cost of containing the epidemic to be approximately $4 billion.

No Meds
In the western world, the fight against HIV has been bolstered by the emergence of HIV medications. Unfortunately, the lack of available health care dollars in the countries hardest hit has made medications scarce in those regions. Medications have be proven to arrest the progress of HIV infection to AIDS, thus allowing people to live longer, more productive lives. Without the benefit of these drugs, Sub-Saharans continue to fall victim to AIDS at alarming rates.

Cultural Differences
A big barrier to containing the HIV virus is cultural differences that make fighting the disease all that much more difficult. In some African populations, multiple sexual partners is expected as part of cultural expression. This increases the risk of transmission because of the shear number of sexual contacts, most of them between parties who are unaware they are infected.

Complacency
In Africa alone, more than 11 million people have died as a result of AIDS. Yet, South African President Thabo Mbeki denounces HIV as the cause of AIDS, saying that nothing has been proven that links the two. Instead, Mbeki is representative of a growing number of people that feel HIV drugs themselves may be the cause of AIDS. This stance has made it more difficult to educate the general population on the importance of medicines in fighting HIV and AIDS.

Oddly enough, the success of HIV medications is also contributing in a small part to the African epidemic. Complacency has led to a rise in unprotected sex, both heterosexual and among gay men. People have seen the success of medications and feel that if infected, a few pills is not a large price to pay for spontaneity. This state of mind can and will have huge ramifications.

AIDs is a response to the population size and the shear frequency of un protected fuckin that happens in Africa. AIDs is needed to help control the population, just like lemmings, or diseases in deer. We shouldn't interfeer with natures plan, or else it will be come more violent and kill all of us.

I don't wish bad things to happen to ANYONE, It sucks that Africa has a huge Aids problem but I also dont feel bad for people who cut their arm off when they juggle chainsaws for a living. They are bringing it upon themselves, just as many people die in America from smoking related illness and we have plenty of education about the dangers of smoking. I'm sure they've figured out by now whats going on over there, yet they continue to have 'multiple sexual partners as expression of culture' or whatever it was. Sometimes your culture needs to adapt to changing problems, STD's are a big problem they need to stop going nuts over there.

Amazingly... no. That isn't the case. Many of them figure they aren't going to live that long anyways, so why spend money and effort on condoms? I read a thesis on this like a year ago, and now I can't remember any of it. Screw it, let this one die.

Once again, while that might be true it shows they are makign a choice. It would be one thing if American corporations in Africa were spraying chemicals in the water to infect these people, but they are infecting each other, I don't go around having sex with everyone I want to, why? Because a ton of my friends have contracted STD's some curable, some not. I can control myself and masturbate or sleep with a steady girlfriend.

My friends mom is from South Africa. She said that the blacks are almost all uneducated (big surprise, I know and it is sad) but that they have these crazy ideas like if you have sex with a white virgin it will cure your aids. Pretty messed up. And no, I am not against helping the Africans. It just so happens my Dad was over there in Rwanda with the genocide relief.

Africa isn't about using condoms, its about changing the whole thinking process of ppl there, turning them into more 'occidental' ppl, im only talking about health habits tho. Unfortunatly yeti, he isnt that far off the mark. I spent quite a bit of time in the Dominican Republic, which isnt too far off from africa as far as poverty levels go. I had no idea what the effects of extreme poverty were until I lived it. People have nothing. They live in a shack and the only thing that seperates the rooms in the 'house' are bed sheets that are tied to the tin roof. Because of the lack of education, most people become very primitive and then resort to the most primitive behaviors to fill time. For many, this is unprotected sex. Many have very large families and children, as a result of the conditions that they live in, are exposed to sex at a very young age. This results in more teenage pregnancies and kids engaging in sexual contact at a much younger age than those in developed countries. They have nothing better to do since they are living in basically a dead end society which offers very little opportunity for improving thier state of living. Education obviously is the key here, but as long as the poverty exists at the levels that they are presently, I am afraid that no matter how much money, food, condoms, etc. that are sent over there, they wont be enough to break this viscious cycle. I know this sounds very pessimistic, but unfortunatly it is the stark reality of the situation.
