The first question I have to ask is how do all of you commited ski bums feel about skiing going mainstream?
I know my community of GOVY has a strict anti development attitude, and a history of despise for development. Also, Skiing is a sport much like Skateboarding, and Surfing which also are exclusive industries. Now that Anybody and Everybody is wearing a Thrasher jacket or light windbreaker, Skateboarders have taken up arms asking the classic "You skate?" as a way to intimidate the outsiders.
From what I can see now Skiing is making a small yet persistent comeback into the mainstream media, there are more Hollywood celebs skiing now than ever before(KARDASHIAN WEST?!). Adidas.. amongst the largest of athletic apparel companies in the world now has a clothing line dedicated to Skiers(and snowboarders).
Ski goggles are probably the most prominent feature in the mainstream media. Correct me if I am wrong but sometime in the 1990's hip hop artists used to sport ski goggles sideways and created a fashion trend out of ski goggles. Now you see the GSW wearing ski goggles(Nike Ski Goggles Btw) and drinking champagne after winning the playoffs. Ray Bans made an entire collection and you can see that their collection has been influenced by the reflective UV lenses of ski goggles.
All of my non skier friends always seem so hyped to see me skiing and want to try skiing for themselves. Is this a new era for the sport of skiing? Can You tolerate to see the sport and "ski style" go mainstream much like Skateboarding's style went mainstream through "Thrasher"? Is change Good or Bad for the sport.. in your opinion?
