IdahoeSpelling is a cool trick.
louie.kFind the biggest jump at your resort do a random rotation you will land on your feet its one of newtons laws
theabortionatorI feel like firat came straight out of, or will be used in some shitty rap song.
.
raddadspenceJust asked NASA if this is true. They said 100%. Send it young pilgrim.
aNIGmaYoung Pilgrim, the "firat" to rap bout sending it
csdavidson18I was in a similar boat very recently when I quit racing after 8 years. I learned 3s and loved them more then anything. To this day my favorite trick. Get those dialed and comfy to the point where you can take them anywhere on the mountain
Park_RangerGoals for your season: Have a ton of fun.
- Learn front 270 (advance to more challenging boxes and rails through out the season) (practice scissoring your skis and gripping the rail)
- Learn back 270 (advance to more challenging boxes and rails through out the season) (practice scissoring your skis and gripping the rail)
- Learn 180 (advance by playing with grabs and taking to bigger jumps)
- Learn 360 (advance by playing with grabs and taking to bigger jumps)
^ If you work on those things all season, you will have a solid foundation to progress off of in the future.
raddadspenceIs there an official pronunciation of the word "firat"? Does it sound like pirate?
theabortionatorI envision it as pee- raht or pih - rat. Lot's of emphasis on the rat.
Like pirrrrrrr RAT!!!!!
Idk. That's how I was seeing it though. Def a pretty intense word from the sound of it.
theabortionatorI dig the name change!
Firrr-r-r-r-r-ratttttttt!
I don't even know what that means but it sounds sweet. I'm going to start yelling it every time somebody stomps something crazy in the park.
Maybe I'll even add some sort of hand gesture like gun shot etc.
chef_boyardeeThis will mostly be reiterating what others have said, but from my own experience and what ive observed, this is the standard progression:
RAILS
1. 5050s on ride-on boxes - I doubt you'll find this challenging, even my dad can do it haha
2. intro to sliding sideways - Basically just start doing shiftys when you're on the box and play around until you get to 90 degrees. This is important because you need to find out what sliding something sideways feels like, and make sure that your weight is balanced.
3. jump and land sideways on a ride-on box- Before, you were just riding straight on to the box and then turning sideways. This time you'll be jumping and landing sideways on the box, just like you would for a rail.
4. easy street style features- once youre super comfortable with hitting boxes sideways, find the easiest street style feature you can, ideally a very small tube or rail. Learning to hit street style features will probably be the hardest thing to do. There are many good threads on here that detail how to do it, so i wont bother getting into it
5. front 270- once you learn how to hit rails comfortably (to forward and to switch), learn how to frontside 270. Its an absolutely essential rail trick and far easier than blind 2. Jake muller has a really good tutorial on this trick.
6. blind 270- again, an essential trick. And jake muller also has a really good tutorial for this one too.
Once you have all of those essentials, it opens up a whole world of tricks to do.
JUMPS
For jumps, learn 180s first and gradually find bigger jumps to do them on. Start trying 360s when you feel you're ready and do the same thing. Most skiers, when they get 3s down, start trying 540s or a switch 1s, so those might be good tricks to consider.
Keep in mind that park skiing is tough when you're learning the basics, but insanely rewarding when you actually learn how to hit rails and spin jumps. Hope this helps
FIRATIt's pretty intense yeah. I would pronounce it like "Fee(r)-Rat"
FIRATNice, how long did it take you to learn?
ChangeCashMoneyQuick lil bump bc this thread and the gift it gave us deserve to stay alive forever. FIRRRRRRAT
Mort.Mcflymake a FIRAT flip and it will def revolutionize freeskiing.
strayln_SkierGentle bump to remember the rise of Firrrraatt
