So it's a bit early in the fall but I figured I'd make this thread. I wish I had done it a few years ago, but there are still some people on the site.

Figured it would be good for unthreadworthy pictures of park rebuilds/updates. Where people are skiing at. Other useful, and hopefully a lot of less useful garbage.

Damn. That's a bummer to hear. At least I feel this thread will prove efficient. Didn't think anything would go down for at least a couple of weeks.

Sucks though. Sun Valley used to be epic. A ton of older photoshoots were done there.

It might for other resorts, sun valley will suck until it changes hands, they arent making a pipe this year and I'm fucking pissed. Saight the bumps are still and always will be clutch.

Pronably wont happen but imo i think resorts should build smaller pipes (10-16 ft or so) if they put one up at all. Doesn't take as much snow/room in a park, more accessible to the average skier, and arguably more fun than a superior anyways

I know my option is unpopular but I gotta say 22 are way more fun and way less scary. You can go bigger too. Either way these resorts arnt building small ones they are just getting rid of them all together

Where did you hear about brecks? I can't see them getting rid of it. I can't see vail dropping a pipe in Summit. Also generally one of the top pipes around.

Word. Def pipes dropping everywhere. But with the Dew Tour and other events, it being a generally sick pipe, being VR in summit, and having good temps for snowmaking/snowfall I can't see breck ditching their ditch.

I remember when everyone that had a park had a pipe. Everyone's got an old rusted to shit 14' ish pipe dragon in their boneyard. I kinda miss them times.

Rails have definitely gotten way more legit/plentiful, and jumps are less likely to kill you, but all the mini ghetto pipes at every mountain.

Those were the days...

Rails, jumps, all park sucks here. The natural features, bumps and "big" (lol not big) mountain stuff here pops tho.

Northstar has a ton of new rails for this upcoming season. Phil killed it all summer long and built a killer new S rail along with many others

Love the park crew on my mountain, because it is just one guy who does almost everything by himself and the setup is sweet... at least most of the time! Can't say anything about this seasons setup, since it has no snow yet...

Carinthia hands down has the best park crew. they're always making new shit and creative, too. If you have never gone to Mount Snow, you need to go the the farm, its a trail where everything is farm related and mad fun features.

If any of you guys have the chance to volunteer and help your local park, do it. It's fun. I volunteer at one mountain and I am the defacto park "manager" at another which hasn't had a park for a few years

heres an old rainbow rail we're working on


we also just got 4 of these donated...




At the other mountain where I actually get paid we're painting our rails soon. What kind of paint do you guys recommend for the sliding surface?

Fuck yeah man! I did a volunteer season 5 years ago when I tore my knee. Built a few grinder barz. Park was small but we had some cool rail jams.



That's dope on the donations as well. When I started there I got 2 rails donated from friends and bought one off CL. Nice to get a couple freebies.

As far as the Pipe dragons. Somebody should make a calender that's nothing but pictures of old beat up pipe dragons rusting in the boneyard jungles. They would probably only sell like 5 but I'd get one.

First couple pics are at Titcomb in Farmington Maine, and the second mountain is Black Mountain in Rumford. Titcomb is kinda good on features at the moment and Black could use some rails (we have 1 vs like 6 boxes), unfortuntely idk if we have the budget for even just transporting them, the manager didn't even want to give us money for a single park rake last season. Fortunately the head of ski patrol there really wants us to have a park and sort of knows how to weld. They are doing a snowmaking project now so we might be able to snag some scraps and make a rail or two out of them. Baby steps I suppose, theres not many kids who can even hit a rail at Black mountain anyways.

True true, just figured I'd throw out the option. Actually bought a few rails/boxes from Mt Abram in ME.

Sometimes you just gotta snag it and weld it. Hide a few pieces till he can weld them lol. If you look around you can generally find enough material for a rail or two lying around.

It's Ben, I think I have you on FB already. Seth is doing awesome as manager so far, his dads going to come and do some welding soon (fix the sugarloaf trap, make some stuff with the new steel). I'm thinking we should do another work day in like a week or two to finish putting on new skirting and grinding some of the other rails

Threads, I work parks for Bear Valley just south of Kirkwood. Last year was my first year building and we managed to pull off a decent park despite getting nuked on and unburying and rebuilding it every other day for the entire month of January. Can’t wait to get back from school and spending my break digging haha

Tenney Mountain in Plymouth is reopening this winter and we only have 2 rails and a box with no plastic. WE NEED MORE FEATURES

Stoked this year on having a new jump builder and newish park crew, last year they put the third jump in the xl line with a takeoff that was almost vertical, and there was a drop rail set as a down rail that was fucking backwards. like this but shaped down ____--------

Damn really? I ski bogus a lot so SV is like heaven to me lol. I really dont like a lot of the park crew maybe not Corey but even then I still have some problems with him

Just saw this. Spray paint for the tops. You don't want a thick paint. You want something that will come off at the contact points as people slide. It'll keep the rail sliding nice and greasy. The rest of the rail rock a nice oil based paint. Even if it looks like a piece of shit rust bucket, throw a nice coat of decent paint on there and BOOM, fresh looking rail.

Some of those features I got from Abram were beat up. I think they had been sitting for a while. We didn't have the budget for new ply, didn't even think the ply was salvageable on some but I gave them 2 solid coats, wire brushed/flapped the coping, painted the steal with some good paint. Looked almost as good as brand new features.

Paints not necessarily cheap, but it's crazy how much a little bit of paint can do to make things look new.

Just don't go thick on the sliding surface. A lot of places leave the sliding surface bare. Brush/flap it and then tape a line down the center and paint the rest of the feature. Looks clean especially at a place where a million people will hit the rail. I do both depending on how I'm feeling or where I'm working.

I ski bogus too and the jumps are fun, i don't really ski rails at all just film the boys. Worst fucking part about the park here is how long it takes to make laps. My buddy does all the marketing and he's talking to brad to try and get the park all linked up in that lower bowl like next to the kiddie park

yeah I probably prefere sv to bogus too. Just makes me mad how much better the park could be or it at least be maintained.

Yeah they only switched the rails up like twice last year. and its only 2 side by side lanes of three rails.

I'll be out there this year on grave. Hoping there's a bunch of snow this season as well.

Rails are in Speculator NY. Find out if your mountain is interested. Has the ability interest to bring a trailer over. Might be a 5 hour drive. 6 pulling a load. Also what their budget is.

They asked me if it was okay to sell some of the stuff since I built a lot of it/fixed everything else. I can go through with the owner and new park manager and figure out a list of features, take pictures, and figure out a price. Not free, but would be very much on the cheap, especially with what companies charge for rails these days.

Actually if that doesn't pan out, open to other people in the North East. Would be cool if they went somewhere that needed a few features to get the park program rolling.

I'm actually right by that town now visiting family so I can actually take pictures and inspect things myself. Idk if anyone does any google sketchup work, but I have 3d models of everything in there if you want the files you can have em.

I remember reading in pwoym you would be out here. Might spend a couple days at the Star this season let’s catch some laps!

Had the opportunity to work a bunch of swing shift and one graveyard this past season and IMO building at night is one of my favorite things. Maybe I’m a bit of a masochist when it comes to being cold but there’s something about being out there shaping a lip for a rail while the cats are killing it rebuilding the jump line. Idk there’s definitely a calm and you feel a part of something and it’s just a good feeling haha. Hoping to get more cat time this season, something about building jumps with just the cat kinda clicked for me. Then again we did get two brand new bison x’s with all the bells and whistles as well as another two on the way so we’ll see.

I'm from Ohio and back in school for $15 lift tickets we could ski crappy ole mad river on Fridays (where that xgames snowboarder was from), and their parks were deadly....deadly as in the landings were flat and parks unkept with drunk scrubs everywhere .....but hey, I can't complain much. It was still a blast and cheap.

That's my complaint.

Anyway, shout out to Peak n Peak parks. Y'all rock.

I am fortunate enough to get plenty of days in New England and out west. My message to all: Enjoy what you have people. The struggle is real.

A couple places I worked day crew we had those dewault boomboxes. Shit was legit. I feel ye on the tunes.

I'll be trying to ride there whenever I can. Just depends on tickets since im on that epic lyfe.

Brighton, Utah's park crew is only snowboarders as far as I know. They do an awesome job with the park though so I don't mind

Waterville will hire skiers if you have experience, but yeah little chance at loon. They are looking for 6 people this season so it might be worth applying just for shits and gigs

Everyone can learn from Brighton's rails. Hard metals that are well maintained keep them slick. interesting, unique, challenging setups that are still low enough to the ground that it doesn't hurt to slide off early. Ollie on from the side on everything but up rails and stuff in the Kittie park. Landings after rails that allow you to come in with speed. Lots of flow and options to hit features in untraditional ways. Wall rides with good transition. And the Millie tubes, made from the lift towers of the old Millie lift, are the most trickable and fun rails ever. There's a reason that some of the gnarliest park skiers in Utah prefer Brighton despite only having the speed for an at largest 40 foot jump

IsitWinterYet17I'm from Ohio and back in school for $15 lift tickets we could ski crappy ole mad river on Fridays (where that xgames snowboarder was from), and their parks were deadly....deadly as in the landings were flat and parks unkept with drunk scrubs everywhere .....but hey, I can't complain much. It was still a blast and cheap.

That's my complaint.

Anyway, shout out to Peak n Peak parks. Y'all rock.

I am fortunate enough to get plenty of days in New England and out west. My message to all: Enjoy what you have people. The struggle is real.


I ski Peekn Peak also man. Parks have been killer the last 5 years. Winter hasn't been great to use lately but hopefully it turns around this season. I am now in Ohio for school and will be making the drive to Peek because I heard Brandywine is no good.

piff.the.eastanyone elses home mountains have park crews that don't hire skiers? Thinking it might be an east coast thing but I'm coming from Loon/Waterville NH

They can be less likely to hired skiers but I think if a qualified skier applied they'd get the job. Mount snows crew was all boarders for years and everyone was always raving on here about how good the parks were.
