im 14 years old, and started to make some money. i have decided to save for a car, instead of waste it on useless junk that won't last me a year. looking used, under 18 thousand preferably, with less than 40k miles. any suggestions? any car model/make is good, because i could find it used. just looking for ideas. thanks!

What do you need out of this car? 4wd? AWD? Cargo space? seating room? Do you need a truck bed? are you going to be hauling stuff? Going for gas milage? yada yada. If you give is a few more ideas we can give you much better recommendations!
looking for awd. Im spending the ski season at sugarbush in the winter, and in the future, so enough room to hold up to 4 pair of skis and equipment, and not having it be extremely cramped with those things in it. Still new to the whole idea, so I am open to any ideas

personally I am a big fan of the Honda Pilot. I got my 2005 fully loaded with 60k on her for 12g. you can probably get them cheaper now with similar miles. Put 75k on her with 0 issues....and that seems to be pretty normal. Drove across a good portion of the country like 6? times. Easy to maintain. Easy and cheap to repair if need be. Good on gas....like 22ish interstate(havent calculated it in a while though). can get better if you go with the 2wd/4wd version. Good 4wd/awd...never had issues around tahoe. Can fit up to 8 people in it...5-6 people with all your gear easy. Surprisingly good offroad. I can fold down alMay look a little mom-like....but its honestly an amazing ski bum car.
If your looking for a car that has a pretty sleek interior and exterior, as well as a fair amount of cargo room and great milage, the Volkswagen Golf TDI is an awesome car. Although it's not AWD, it get like 45MPG (on Diesel), is pretty peppy and fun to drive, has a good looking interior, and can hold a pretty good amount of stuff in it. They aren't too pricey as you go down in years, a 2012 is around 9k
There really is only one choice, and I think most of NS will agree with me - 1992 Volvo 240.
Should be able to pic up one for well under $18k, and have some cash left over for lift tickets, possible repairs, etc. Bonus, insurance will be fairly inexpensive. Here's an entire thread dedicated to your future vehicle: https://www.newschoolers.com/forum/thread/800491/1992-Volvo-240

not my photo...but same car.
This Pilot is a champ. Went from Reno to Targhee with 5 dudes and all their ski gear. Also got my first blowie in that car.

Dub post, but what is the hype on these?
always see people post about them. Just a really good vehicle? Or a joke?
Just start saving and figure it out when you're able to drive. Unless you live in a country where you can drive at 14.
Hell, if you think you can save enough aim for a bugatti. If you can't afford it but somehow managed to save 50k you've got a billion options. If you can only save 5k you still have plenty options.
Also I wouldn't recommend spending more than like 3k on your first car. Unless somebody buys it for you or you're killing it. Even if you don't run into anything with it, you'll probably beat on it while learning how to drive/ you and your friends trashing the interior.
Some great suggestions in here. Honestly, Google is a better option. Start there, then come back and ask if people like the car or not. There's a TON of AWD options out there with plenty of cargo room. Do some research. You could also get a sedan and put a roof rack on for skis. Rest of gear in trunk.
The only real thing is buy used, and certified pre-owned if you can.
First car, buy something cheap, and beat it like an ugly step child. Dont spend any more than 4k you're not holding on to this car for life. Dont worry too much about mileage, as long as its under 200k and has beem decently maintained. Don't worry too much about what shape the body is in as long as its not rotted out, the more beat up it is when you get it the less you'll worry about scratching it up... Just my 2 cents, but I'm a fair bit more abusive to my vehicles than 99% of other people
shit 18k? Imo buy a Honda or old Toyota for under 3k cause I can almost guarantee you will crash within the first 4 years weather it be yourself or someone else
ilegalesget a regular car for your first - just get someone who knows about checking to see if its in good working order
yeah get someone with some mechanic skills to help you out. you want to be looking at a toyota/subaru/volvo/honda with less than 200k miles maybe some dings and dents but overall in good mechanical shape. also pro tip: buy some older persons car. grandmas honda or whatever car will be a way better buy than some other car from a younger person
My best advice would be to find a car you like and look for it on Craigslist. Then once you find one you like make a time to check out the car and bring it to your mechanic. If it checks out to be a good car you’ll get a better price on it than at any dealership and you’ll have left over money to buy a roof rack, a new speaker system and any repairs if it needs it. If you need to pay for gas and repairs definitely save money dedicated to that.

Volvos are fuckin solid cars. If you don't want to deal with RWD in snow, the 850s are awesome cars too.
Get yourself a Jeep that is from 2006 or older. They have a fantastic inline 6 cylinder 4.0L engine that runs forever and is super easy to work on. They are great in the snow, inexpensive, and will run forever. Also they look cool and hold your skis. I'd recommend the grand Cherokee ,but they're all sick.
The one thing you want to not do is buy a used version of like a 50 thousand dollar car that someone is offloading right before they have to sink a bunch if money into it. Audi, BMW, Range Rover they are all awesome cars, but you need to be willing to drop money on their $800 rotors and fancy rain sensing windshield automatic blah blah blah. The more complicated cars are harder for a person to work on themselves and are stuffed full of expensive parts and inevitable problems. If you don't care about what you drive that much, keep it simple.
Honestly Under 40k miles is still pretty new. Also wtf do you even need a car for? It's one thing if you're interested in cars and want one, but then you wouldn't be making this thread.
