eheathIf a subaru is well maintained, it's a great vehicle. The problem is they get neglected as they get older and things like head gaskets bust at like 150k miles and no one wants to pay to fix it. If you maintain your subaru as recommend, including just replacing head gaskets ahead of time, other sorts of preventative work, you can put 300k on subi.

Randy_QuenchThe beginning of this thread made some good points. Subarus can be very dependable vehicles if maintenance has been kept up with, especially non-turbo models. You begin running into issues when you stop taking care of maintenance items and start bolting up mods without the proper tuning. Subarus have a great aftermarket parts market, so its easy for people to upgrade bolt ons. However I feel like a lot of people dont realize that even simple mods like an intake require tuning, and BOVs aren't meant for cars with MAF.

I daily a 2004 FXT 5mt. Rebuilt at 150k, 3in invidia TBE, catless uppipe, wrx wagon suspension, ect ect. I had it dyno tuned and it put down 252awhp/300ft at 16 psi on the stock td04. I've put 30k on it since the rebuild and just crossed the country NH>OR in it last week with no major hiccups.

.lenconLong bed for sure. Short beds are useless. I always find it funny when people say they have a Tacoma then I see they have a short bed. I guess it depends on what you do, but for the most part, they're useless haha. That bed is the same size as my cargo space in my Outback lol.

The crew cab is preferred, but hard to find a long bed, 4x4, crew cab that isn't trashed or crazy expensive. I rarely ever have more than 1-2 people in my car tho.. so I would be content with a extended cab

mystery3You can't get a double cab (need for two kids) and a manual transmission with a long bed, don't ask me why I don't make the rules. I chose long bed and autotragic for a Chevy Colorado and I hated it, GM build quality is still shite btw, traded it for the short bed 6M Taco.

We had a 2010 WRX hatch, it was a great driver's car though not terribly reliable and a little bit too small for use with two kids. It used to eat coil packs and had an intermittent no start condition when we traded it at 60K, awesome trade/resale value though. It was beat for 60K, bought it for ~$25k otd and got $15 for it on a trade five years later.

mystery3They used to make them but no more for the third generation Tacoma. I did order mine and unfortunately the option is no longer available. It's a bummer and I don't understand the reasoning.

CoreyTrevor:-D It's true though the power dies after 80 or 90 but for some reason picks back up at ~110 at least on stock tune. Topped mine out at 144 on a COBB OTS map (my naturally aspirated 4 cylinder TSX would do the same), my infiniti definitely pulls harder at 155 than the WRX at 144. Wife got rear ended last night, 4 car pileup, she was in the front so damage appears to just be scratches on the rear bumper so far (hopefully). Mods are currently just accessport but I'm going to order ETS intake, EGR & TGV delete, and EBCS then e-tune, as well as boomba short shifter--was going to do it at work today to make myself feel better about our car getting hit but forgot my wallet at home. It's not my dream car, but it's a pretty solid deal for under 30k. I try to keep my complaints to myself because my life loves foresters but I said no way--getting a WRX. I can't stand the suspension though.

grilled_steeze05 FXT, 5 speed premium. 184,6XX miles and counting. No major problems yet but I had the manifold off for around a month to do some minor stage 1 upgrades and get them out of the way. Runs ok for a turbo with that many miles. Little rusty but i'll put in a new engine cradle sooner or later which is the biggest issue now.

CoreyTrevorGot my Perrin electronic boost control solenoid, TGV and EGR deletes put in. Took two full days in the garage, ignoring friends and family and everything in the outside world and contemplating suicide the whole time. Tried to get it tuned--boost leak. Replaced coolant in radiator, idk if I really did anything else but it worked itself out. I used to think I would return my car to stock before going in for warranty work--definitely not happening. Perrin EBCS blows, just get grimmspeed the install is a little more involved but better instructions widely available online. Almost done tuning--runs like a charm. I was terrified about my wife grenading the motor going hard boost at low RPM's with this tune, there's no knock at all even lugging the hell out of the engine. Time to put on snow tires and take a fucking hiatus from car projects

Ryhan2010/2011 Outbacks are muy bueno. Smoothest riding vehicle I've ever driven. Almost puts me to sleep on longer drives.

jlens05Honestly, I come from a family who's driven nothing but Subarus for the past 15 years, why? Because we get absolutely shafted with lake effect where I live. The hate on Subies comes from people who just don't get it. You drive a Subaru with winter tires in 3 feet of snow and then you'll get it. I remember ever sicne I was little being in the backseat of one of our Subarus casually driving through Western New York blizzards and shit, I grew up got my own and I might never go back. There's something to be said about being in a little forester, flying past all the hicks in their big lifted bad ass trucks stuck in ditches because they think they're invincible because they're 10ft in the air. My Subaru got me into cars, got me into modding, and it damn sure helped get me safely to and from the slopes more times than I can count. There's a reason why ever other person in Colorado has a Subie (hint, it has to do with the snow). So yeah, my fozzy is slow as shit, but it has more character than anything else I see on the road, it's bulletproof as hell, a drift monster, a rally car if I'm feeling ballsy, and it'll get me off road through some pretty gnarly shit to some great campsites. So yeah I'm a fanboy, but only because I have experience, and my Subaru has saved my life in situations where I could have easily ended up in a ditch, tree, or the E.R even. If you wanna hate, go ahead nobody really cares, but if you wanna figure out why they have such a big following, ask someone you know to let you drive it next time it snows.
