Rail Jams?

Anybody remember the glory days of fall having a dope rail jam every week? They need to come back!! Also something sick would to bring the rail jam back to the Boston ski and snowboard expo. That inside jam was so sick!

Did they do it last year? I know their old manager went to Windham and their supervisor to Boreal. This was for last season or 2 seasons ago. Not sure who's their now.

Yeah they had it last year and it was dope. They basically have all new people working there now except like 2 or 3 people.

Boise still has their pray for snow rail jam and I think we even had two because 10 barrel brewing did one here also

Minnesota's got the next three weekends covered because we have a billion indoor hockey rinks in the state of hockey. Buck Hill, Giants Ridge, Spirit Mountain. It's hype.

Lol, that's a pretty major professional event. I wouldn't really consider it a rail jam... sure it's rail jam format, but it's a big comp with the best in the game sending it XXXL.

What happened to the local shop sponsored rail jams for the kids?

A good rail jam is an expensive event (emphasis is on the word event, usually there is more going on than just a rail jam) and a logistical burden. I don't see a whole lot of incentive for resorts to host a rail jam, outside of the goal of bringing people out to an "event" which is likely in place to promote the resort and/or ski shop that is hosting the jam. These resorts and shops have probably found ways to get people out and to create hype that aren't such a cost and maybe even can return a profit. A rail jam is nothing but cost cost cost

All you need is a title sponsor willing to give you a six figure budget, a ski and snowboard sponsor, outwear sponsor(s), an old beat up 80's bus to renovate, universities/colleges willing to use some of their budget, and a crew of Skiers/Snowbaording who like to travel from university to university for 3+ months busting ass and partying... Simple logistics, really.

I totally agree. Finding a decent rail jam is hard to find where I'm from in New York. A lot of colleges in my area (Plattsburgh/Burlington region) have very solid set-ups with the lack of snow this time of the year. However on the east coast, nothing serious happens unless if it's a USASA event, which are very hard to come by near me.

Had those 2 at Oak in 2013 and 2014. Turnout on the first one was huge, second had a better setup but ended up against Mount Snows COMP and a couple other things. Think there were 12 people. Obviously location plays into things but idk. We used to load up in a van and drive ridiculously far to ski.

Sometimes the turnout isn't there for the places who put on a good event, and some of the mountains that do have big turnouts regardless, have incompetent people building/running them. Or just mail it in because they'll get 30+ local kids whether it's something decent or not.

I mean west snagged up the Usasa and didn't even build a setup for it. Just the regular park with sick snowbank landers like that uprail. The new chick running the ADK series moved it there because it was less of a drive for her. I was stoked to see west put in such a sick effort for the event.

Whiteface and Titus are the only places doing anything impressive recently. Whiteface always had jumps, but until Tyler and other people worked there, the rails were kind of weak. Now every even seems pretty dialed. Also a ton of new sick features.

Titus came out of nowhere. They still have some shit to learn, but they seem to really care. New features, some sick jumps. Haven't ridden there but just creeped the pics. It's like night and day a few years ago to last season or two.

If somebody is putting on an event, and building a killer setup, try and support. At the end of the day that's the only thing that allows places to justify it. Load up somebodies car full of ski gear and send it.

Just found out that there's going to be rail jams at the Albany northeast ski show and at the Boston ski and snowboard expo dates are nov 3,4,5 for Albany and I think 9,10,11 for Boston. Peep USASA adirondack series instagram for the deets.

Bishop's University in Sherbrooke Quebec has a rail jam and it's one of the first I've been too in at least 5 years. I miss the Friday night rail jams at my local hill. The glory days of OG park skiing have unfortunately gone by.
