Replying to Compact camera

So im thinking of ditching my current set up (gh3 w/glidecam and tripod and video mic with several lenses) for a much lighterweight compact set up. I find myself taking my camera up the mountain less and less because it inhibits me being able to ski if i feel like it.

Im thinking of grabbing a small compact camera such as the Panasonic tz100 then a gopro gimbal. both of which i can pretty much chuck in my backpack and forget about.
What are people's experience with these kind of setups, like'em? hate'em?

obviously advantages are that i really dont have to think about them too much, disadvantage is IQ and general production value of edits will drop as manual control is less great.
