Replying to Animations in Edits

Hey pals, I've been trying out some funky animations in some clips. So where I land, I'd draw up some little lines adding effect to the impact. Kinda trendy, pretty neat stuff, I know that Gavin Rudy did it a lot in an edit with Ethan a couple seasons back. I'm trying to get it dialled but the animations look like garbage and I'm not too sure what else to try. If anyone has any suggestions as to things I could try or places I could look for more info let me know. I use Final Cut and Motion. Thanks!
