Good First Park Ski???

I grew up skiing but never ventured into the park, decided this year I want to start working on my steeze. Jibs & butters & spins look fun to me, I'd like to find a cheap durable, playful ski to ride this winter. Any suggestions? Should I buy brand new skis or am I better off finding a used pair that I can thrash?
I'm 6'1, 170 lbs.

Skis I've been checking out so far
- Line Honey Badger
- Armada ARV 86
- Atomic Infamous
- Line Blend
- Line Tigersnake

Anything with a traditional camber/slight park rocker tips and tails.

I started out on an old pair of volkl walls and tbh the full camber taught me a lot about edge control and how shit feels in the park but that's just my opinion

I agree. Start full camber or maybe something with just a hair of rocker. Some options to consider: Line Blend, Volkl Ledge/Transfer

I agree, I'd keep it simple for the first pair... The infamous is apparently really cheaply made although always has some dope graphics I personally wouldn't purchase it. I've only heard good things about the Arv series, and i'm sure the 86s would be great for you. A lot of people are saying get the Blends, they do look sick they just might be a lot to handle (big skis) for your first pair. Maybe look into the Chronics or the Tom Wallisch's. If you're trying to keep it core, maybe get some ninthwards. Simple ski, simple graphic - they look sick. In the end it doesn't really matter I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself!! Cheers

Honestly I would just get a used pair off here on B/S/T. When you start learning spins you'll wreck your topsheets because you'll knife your edges together, and the same goes for rails too. Any big falls involving rails nick and eat away at them. Buy something cheap to learn on. See if there's anything with a heavy rocker-camber-rocker combo and go with that. Once you get comfortable you can decide what geometries you like, how stiff and soft you like, and more.

I started on full camber it it wasnt very fun but taught me the mechanics of park skiing and how to pick my style. but all that said I beat my to shreds

I would not get the blends. Really flexy and fat park ski for a beginner. My recommendation would be either the armada arv 86, Head framewall, Or Volkl walls.

Like others have said before, a used pair might not be a bad way to go. That way you won't have high expectations if you end up beating them up pretty bad.

I would honestly just hit up craigslist and score some for cheap...save your cash for now. While skiing pay attention to what you like and don't like about these first skis and then take that knowledge into buying something that is geared towards your personal preference.

Two pieces of advise though for choosing park skis...You're taller like me so don't go under a 175...170 at the SMALLEST...Also, do yourself a favor and center mount a park ski. Nothing worse than hitting a jump with your bindings mounted on your tails.

Get some honey badgers or something that arent super pricey, i started on masterminds for the reason i knew id destroy them, learning park is fun but be prepared to fuck some shit up.

Thanks for the help everyone. I wound up finding a pair of used 182 Punx from a homie on the Sell/Trade forum for a dope price. I'm pretty jazzed for the snow to get here so I can start using them.

Great. There are good deals on here. When you have ridden them for a season or two and gotten better you will know what you like and can tailor to your interests.

Yeah good call acutally, i ski lighter skis but im 6'1 145 lol, youd destroy the skis i ride

Go honey badgers or tiger snakes for your first park ski. And then when you obliterate them after a year go up and try out some icelantics, Moments, or on3ps since they actually make skis that last.

Yeah actually my brother just bought honey badgers and they seem nice and flexy but don't think you'd break them. Then step up to something better, your first pair of park skis should be something somewhat inexpensive so if you destroy em you won't be too sad then you can buy some solid ON3P, Faction, Icelantic, or someone else that makes solid skis

Solid first choice ski, gonna last you a while hopefully. A few things id keep in mind going forward is,1) people tend to center mount park skis, i wouldn't mount any further back than -2cm for sure, find whatever s comfortable to you but it may be an adjustment from your previous skis 2) your skis are used so they probably have some decent detuning already but detuning park skis is a great idea to prevent edge catches on rails and to prevent them from cracking

I know OP has found skis, so this thread should die. Just wanted to say that you definitely destroy skis faster as you get better, not when you're first starting out.
