I like some of the overall aesthetic but some of the hypebeast shit just feels like people are trying to hard. I think the only reason people are dropping thousands on "grail" pieces is because it's socially unacceptable to wear a t-shirt with your net worth printed on it.

I think they're pretty god awful in terms of style. But, I understand why they're popular and can appreciate the culture that goes along with it. People like to feel like their a part of something unique, and by wearing exclusive brands they can find that sense of belonging they're looking for.

Of course, it's in a prohibitively expensive and vapid sort of way, but I'm missing the point with that sort of cynicism. It's ok for teens/young adults to wear stupid clothes with with giant gaudy logos plastered all over them, they're just trying to fit in/be a part of something they like. When I was a kid I wore all kinds of awful shit (basically any piece of Oakley clothing from 2002-2010) and because of it I felt like I was part of the skiing community. It sure didn't improve my skiing (still terrible), but I felt cool and when you're a teenager that's pretty important.

So, in conclusion, I think street wear is both "tight" and "whack".

Kinda into it but not really. I have a few Supreme tees but I got them on drop day for retail. I would never pay resell price, ever. I have a friend that's super into it and has 11k worth of preme/ftp/palace/bape/yeezy shit and even he says it's fucking stupid lol. If you know how to wear it right and don't dickride supreme, I think it's pretty cool

I think they are adult/teen sized soothers to help people cope with the idea that they will never be able to afford a nice car and house, and instead pour what they do have into an iron on patch cotton hoodie.

"Ruin", I'm sure everyone involved is appalled at how much money they're making. I can totally understand how the core feel betrayed but it's just business and nothing's more authentic than capitalism. I don't know much about streetwear, though, I only wear wolf t-shits.

i really dont give a damn about these hypebeast, but what really piss me off is how classic outdoor brands are ruined by collabs with these brands like supreme, etc. I love The North Face, Patagonia or Helly Hansen, because their clothing is part of skiing, the best thing in this world. But nowadays you cant wear TNF hoodie without being called a hypebeat and that make me sick. Why hype brands arent hype brands and outdoor brands arent just outdoor brands?

It really doesn't matter. Like I don't at all understand why someone would drool or mock someone for wearing supreme. I get that retail is overpriced but it is moderately well made and whenever I make an order, I make sure to grab one of the "hype" pieces to resell and make most or all of my money back on the whole order. Really not hard to do but I do agree spending $800 on a box logo hoodie is stupid but hey, capitalism.

I was hiking a rail for a while once and this 15 year old looking kid rolled up to stop and talk to me. After about a minute of him talking, it became very apparent that he only stopped to gloat about the Supreme hoodie he was wearing. This kid was rolling around telling complete strangers that he paid something like 600$ for a hoodie

I was embarrassed for him.

Oh man, Oakey has come up with some weird shit over the years. I was watching Propaganda with my Brother last weekend and there was a scene of a teenage Tanner Hall wearing the "Over the Top" glasses and I almost spilled my beer. Their old bomber jackets from around 2006 were really nice though. I remember when I had an Oakley belt with their old Skull and Crossbones logo for the belt buckle. God I cringe even thinking about that.

I respect it. High end fashion has always been super expensive, and I never found that it looked nice, felt nice, and it never seemed to appeal to the younger crowd. Now it looks really nice, and is really comfortable.

Palace is fucking dope and my fave clothing brand by far. Bape designs are alright I guess. Supreme is generally not my thing and bogos are cool but so fucking expensive. Idk much else than that. I've heard bad things from the community about ASS Club but would probably buy it otherwise. I don't have money for extra clothes right now anyway, maybe will do a wardrobe makeover someday.

Thrifting/core brands are also a great option. Vishnu and Jiberish are dank for streetwear and don't cost you an arm and a leg.

Walk into the Miller Dining Hall and you're bound to see a clean mix of cuffed-pant hype beasts and kids who look like they just shoved a handful of granola up their ass for some adventure clout. The same thing goes for females, I have never seen such a high density of Lululemon attire in my life

There's a huge difference between dressing nice vs. following the hype. I've been in Italy the last 4 months on a study abroad program and Italians dress nice, their outfits aren't crazy expensive (not cheap either) but their style is classy and clean. I think hypebeasts that are all for brands have no idea how to dress, just follow trends. Hypebeasts don't even like the clothing either but in their head it's what's "cool." The ugly and bulky multi colored dad shoe hasn't caught on here and Italians don't wear big dumb dressed sized off white hoodies. Instead it's stone island coats, collared shirts, a sweater with a clean pair of dress shoes. I am only saying this because Italians are known for making the best clothing and I rarely see them wearing skittles colored bape hoodies.

I don't see anything wrong with that, but I genuinely don't understand the people who overdo it. Sometimes it looks just awful. I like to dress up not to show off my big status or anything like that. I like to be able to have clothes that will reflect my inner world and talk about me at a glance. It is better to go out in a T-shirt with a unique print that will describe you, than to dress in tasteless but expensive things, just to show off in front of friends. I think it depends a lot on how a person thinks and maybe sometimes it's related to childhood traumas. I noticed that the second option is most often worn by young men of 15-20 years, who are trying to assert their position in society.
