I don't hear much chatter on here about bump skiing. I'm an old school EC skier and would say that I ski bumps 65% of the ski day when conditions provide. If i'm on the WC I will pick pow of course first, if no pow I' m looking for moguls on the side of trail and steeps. Do people out West still hit bumps anymore? And how many EC's are still bumping? Just a thought.

Candide Thovex, Rory Bushfield (won junior worlds for moguls), Sarah Burke, Simon Dumont, Mike Douglass, etc. etc. were all mogul skiers. You won't find many of those guys that weren't at some point.
Mogul skiing is still alive in kicking at Stratton, the mountain is always mobbed by the comp kids wiggling down and throwing shifties off side hits, sometimes they can be super obnoxious, but a lot of them are sick skiers and the coaches are some of the best park riders on the mountain, for sure cant hate

That it is my friend. i love poaching world cup when there isnt a race. The best days are late season when liftline is all bumped up. That trail top to bottom zipper line will separate the men from the boys when it comes to endurance and keeping form. You can treat the cat track trails that separate it as a small jump into the next set as well. shame that stratton grooms pretty much everything on the mountain though. Upper downeastern is fun when its moguled up and so is vertigo.

You start in a gate like skier cross, go through some huge whoops, then a bump section with a freestyle moguls jump, then back into boarder x type course with some decent jumps, and occasionally some rails, then a flat area where you have to do 3 different flatland or ballet moves, then into a small pipe and out the end.
Mogul section (with jump) into a DH grade steep section with some gs turns into a ski cross section into big air jump with a landing that flows into a slope course with a big ol' quarter pipe to finish it off.

it's called 'La Chavanette' (aka the swiss wall) down the back of Avoriaz into switzerland. the fuckers has a pretty gnarly top section, its about 1k long as well. i far from owned it...
Another Sun Valley kid here. We all grew up ripping bumps and throwing threes off cat tracks into mogul fields. If there is one thing Sun Valley does have it is consistent long mogul runs. They'll eat your legs alive if you ski all day. That's why all the pros from SV are always great all around skiers looking at Banks, Karl, and Collin Collins to name a few.

I don't get moguls in the midwest but when I go out west, I love me some soft and powdery moguls. Some of the nicest snow on the mountain if the weather hasn't been crap recently. I wish I could live at a mountain so i could learn how to get them really good and fast.

Just coming out to Utah the most respect I have for anyone is the guys who can zip down the bumps. I'm nowhere near that yet and still look like a girrafe on roller skates coming down a mogul field but I'm just plugging away at it. Foot tendon issues don't help unfortunately.

Gunbarrel is no joke. Years back I let my brother talk me into doing the Gun Barrel comp with him. It's like 25+ laps through Gun Barrel or something ridiculous. I did like 6 laps and said fuck that lol.
I love skiing moguls but of the two hills I frequent, they both have shit mogul lines. One usually has tremendous solid ice bumps that have no flow whatsoever, and honestly I think the other doesn't have any most of the time. Probably to keep gapers from dying.

When I was on the University of Colorado Freeride program we would train bumps for at least half the day every time we went up. The coaches would always say, "If you can ski bumps you can ski anything". I actually got really good at them over the year I was on the program. Bumps are fun because you always have to think about what your next line is going to be and how you need to react to the slope changing.
I feel like many of the east coast resorts are grooming everything out that used to be left natural full of massive bumps. Pretty disappointing to see because I love skiing moguls and it seems like many of these places are grooming for jerry's. The best thing is rolling up in the morning for first chair and seeing moguls from top to bottom of most runs.

I hate moguls about as much as groomers. Probably because I can't ski. I'll take ungroomed runs everyday though. Can't stand when places groom over fresh snow from the night before. Baffles me everytime.
