I'm gonna be in Bergen on a family trip in Jan and want to get one day of skiing in. Gotta check off that bucket list item of skiing in Europe! Anyway, I'm not sure where to go... Hemsedal seems like the best bet. Geilo and Voss are closer. I'd really like to pick the place with the best off-piste terrain that doesn't require a guide or expert knowledge of the area. I don't care about the park at all - been skiing CO my whole life. Any suggestions??
Hemsedal is over 4 hours from Bergen, it's not somewhere you go on a day trip from Bergen, neither is Geilo.
Based on what you want to ski, I'd say Myrkdalen is your best bet. You can get there on public transport from Bergen, it's Norway's snowiest resort, and it's got pretty mellow terrain if you pay attention to avy warnings and have a chat to ski patrol. Voss could be an option too.
