Who is the most influential skier of the last 10 years? I think it's one of these three:

Tom Wallisch
Sammy Carlsson
Henrik Harlaut

tough question because influential to our community is very different from being influential to the larger population

wallisch is probably up there for both though. his videos have gotten some good recognition on youtube and stuff but he also was a huge force in the ski community and continues to be one of the sickest riders out

harlaut got a little press with his wu tang comment at olympics but beyond that his work has mostly been within the ski community

carlson is one of the best all around skiers ever but-- and i say this to his credit-- i think people kind of forget that sometimes cause he's somehow kinda flown under the radar, at least considering how elite a skier he is

Wallisch along with GoPro pretty much commercialised Freeskiing into what it is today. Can't be much more influential as that

I vote Wallisch, Hands down. While everyone on that list pushed the game further down the road, Wallisch revolutionized skiing. Tanner Hall did the same for skiing but that was closer 18 years ago. Harlaut has done some insane stuff but even he admitted in an interview years ago, he was trying to copy Wallisch's tricks.

Although the progression towards doubles and triples was natural, we can thank Jon Olsson and Jacob Wester for getting the ball rolling. Jon is better known for pioneering doubles but Jacob was the one who perfected the dub cork 1260 mute.

I like Henrik, Tanner Hall and Wallisch But i think that Candide Thovex is easily the best and most influential skier of all time, He made freeskiing what is today, hands down Candide the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever be!

Definitely Candide. Like he's not even my favorite skier. I still prefer Henrik to him (not my fav either) its just that candide has had such a huge effect not just on skiers but on everyone. Every where you look is one of his videos. He amazes and influences everyone who watches him.

Honestly, I'm going to have to say Henrik Harlaut. His style has spread really quickly. Before he was well known, people were still skiing upright, with poles, no afterbang. He really spread that around.

If youre speaking the most influential in the last 10 years then yes without a doubt Candide is the Goat of influencing and all around greatest skier.

His influence goes even outside that of the skiing community with his videos and parts becoming extremely popular and well known by the mainstream.

ive seen a lot of chicks crediting lindsey vonn and lynsey dyer as inspiration to stick with it.

Wallisch and Phil. Not to take anything away from Henrik but I feel like Phil has been more influential, probably because the stuff he does is more relatable. Though I'd say that the B&E edits from 2010-2011 really changed the way people skied.

for park its wallisch and phil. wallisch made everyone realize that you can pretzel anything, and that landing with your hands in your pockets pretty much always looks cool. phil got the nollie, butter, pressing everything ball rolling that eventually inspired the bunch and henrik. candide of course has been on top for like 15 years, but he made in bounds all terrain ripping cool again so thats pretty influential too. jon olsson also got the dub cork game going.

overall i gotta give it to phil though. everyone, from novice park skiers to the gnarliest pros, are buttering and pressing around due in large part to how good he made it look

HARLAUT- Yup. A lot. I watched every single ski movie like 30 times a day. My favorite skier has always been, until two years ago, Tanner Hall. But now, from last year, I saw Tom Wallisch enter the Superunknown video contest. So it was pretty awesome to see that and see what you could do on rails and then try the tricks in his promo. Is it okay to claim?

INTERVIEWER-Yeah for sure.

HARLAUT-I almost got all those tricks in his Superunknown movie video!

Wallisch has been huge with the park/go pro marketing. But overall it's gotta be Candide. He did crazy things in the park, films, backcountry competitions, short edits, everything. And there is no way "One of Those Days" isn't the most viewed ski video ever.

Yeah, I said 10 years for a reason. That is the timeframe I'm trying to determine with this question. As you mentioned, If we're saying since 1998, then you have to go with someone like Tanner, Candide or JP.

You are aware that there are aspects of skiing outside of park and urban? No one on TGR cares very much about Wallisch. Sammy and Candide have influence over there. I really think people on this website think Wallisch is more of a big deal in the ski world than he actually is. Sage is a much bigger deal over on a website like TGR, and it is not even close. Hoji too. And Tanner's best work was not done 18 years ago, I would argue Believe is the best that he has produced.

Shane McConkey would be an example of someone who revolutionized skiing. Seth Morrison and the New Canadian Air force too.

For park skiing Wallisch sure, but overall its hands down Candide. Anyone who disagrees is overlooking big mountain/free ride skiing as a whole. Candide has won xgames gold medals and the freeride world tour as well as putting out many of the best all around ski segments ever. The stuff he does is out of this world.

Idk about trying to emulate his style, and in the long run it's always better to develop your own rather than copy someone else. Look at all the "one of those days" copies though, is that not people trying to emulate his style?

Candide's my favorite skier and imo the GOAT but I don't think he's the most influential. What's so sick about him is how he's been doing next level shit for almost 20 years yet still stays relatively low key. He just pops in and out with some of the most top shelf skiing imaginable but has never gotten over-exposed

This is very true. Wallisch has been awesome for the park scene but he only very recently got into the backountry/big mountain aspect of skiing with the most recent Good Company films. Candide has competed/filmed in just about every category of skiing beside racing and has excelled in all of them. Sammy has less influence than Candide simply because he is younger, but he has also done crazy things in both park/big mountain and competitions/film. Just not quite on the same level as Candide.

NS is sleeping on some serious OGs. Let's get some love going for dumont, martini and hatveit. That generation completely changed the way comp skiers move and brought big tricks to the backcountry. We wouldn't be where we are today without them

The question was about the most influential skier of the last 10 years, so I think it is fair to point out that people over there care about different things than people here. If the OP had said "the most influential skier with only newschoolers.com counting" I would 100% agree. Wallisch is a huge influence over here and amazing at what he does, no doubt about that.

Tom ushered in this last era and owned it for almost a decade.
